The tour of 'Remarkably Normal' by Jessi Blue Gormezano, Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign' directed by Marie Byrd Sproul includes performances in eight cities, including some of the states with the most restrictive laws or active fights to place greater restrictions on access to abortion care, including Texas, where a law that's forced many of the clinics to close is under consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court. The play is a clever, thoughtful and creative way to bring the reality of people's abortion experiences into the heightened and tense conversation around abortion.

1 in 3 Campaign Launches National Tour of Abortion Play; Beginning in Atlanta, 5/12

The 1 in 3 Campaign announced today the national tour of a groundbreaking new documentary play on abortion in the face of political attacks on access to safe, affordable abortion care. The play moves past the noise of the current political climate and features first-hand accounts from the people who receive and provide abortion care, even as access to abortion care comes under increasing threat.

the american vicarious to Premiere DOUGLASS at Theater Wit This Summer

the american vicarious is proud to return to Chicago with DOUGLASS, a world premiere drama from Thomas Klingenstein, directed by Jeff Award nominee Christopher McElroen (Invisible Man). DOUGLASS will play July 21 - August 14, 2016 at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. The press opening is Sunday, July 24 at 3 pm.

Detroit Public Theatre to Conclude Inaugural Season with DETROIT '67

Completing its inaugural season, Detroit Public Theatre will present the award-winning Detroit '67 by Dominique Morisseau May 13 - June 5th (CHANGED from the Originally scheduled May 6 - 29 to accommodate a partnership with the prestigious Baltimore Center Stage).

Annual 'Playwrights for a Cause', Benefitting New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, to Be Held in July

The annual Playwrights for a Cause benefit will be Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at the Atlantic Theatre (Linda Gross Theater), 336 West 20th Street, NYC 10011. The special performance will include six original plays. This year the playwrights for the benefit will include: Israel Horovitz, Dominique Morisseau, Antoinette Nwandu, John Patrick Shanley, Regina Taylor as well as an award-winning writer from the Planet Connections community that will be announced later.

Sandra Oh, Hoon Lee & More Set for Sundance Institute's New MENA Play Development

Sundance Institute today announced the acting company, dramaturgs and creative advisors participating in its pilot Theatre Lab in the MENA region, including Sandra Oh, Hoon Lee, Deanna Dunagan, Hala Omran and Raeda Taha. The Lab, held in Morocco next month, is part of the Institute's international cultural exchange programs for independent artists and will kick off a new, multi-year commitment to support artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). For the Lab, the Institute will provide promising, fresh voices from the U.S. and MENA region with a rigorous artistic retreat and new opportunities for cross-cultural discovery, artistic reflection and creative experimentation.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem Sets 2016 Season

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director), will open its spring season with their 2nd Annual Spring Fundraiser, April 11, 2016. An intimate evening of music featuring the breathtaking vocals of Mykal Kilgore, most recently seen at CTH as Benny Raindrop in The Classical Theatre of Harlem's original musical, The First Noel at The Apollo Theater, and NBC's The Wiz Live. The Classical Theatre of Harlem's 2016 season is rounded out with its yearly free Uptown Shakespeare in the Park production of Macbeth in the summer, a new production of Fit For the Queen by renowned playwright Betty Shamieh, its ongoing monthly Reading Series, and the Apollo Theater mainstage production of The First Noel. 

Collegiate Theatrics: USC's CHANTAL NCHAKO

A perfect example is Chantal Nchako, a native of Douala, Cameroon, and a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. On her burgeoning resume, you will find such projects as The Vagina Monologues at New World Stages; All American Girls at the Actor's Temple; and Henry V at the Classical Theatre of Harlem. In addition, she starred as Agent Cooper in the feature film Raltat, which was nominated in the Pan African Film Festival.

The Farm Theater to Host BULLPEN SESSIONS: PRODUCING FOR YOUR COMMUNITY, 4/5

The Farm Theater will present Bullpen Sessions: Producing For Your Community with special guests Ty Jones, Artistic Director of the Classical Theatre of Harlem, and Lou Moreno, Artistic Director of INTAR on Tuesday, April 5 from 6-8pm at Punto Space (325 West 38th Street). Sundance Institute today announced the eight new projects selected for its pilot Theatre Lab in the MENA region, held in Morocco, May 2016. WP Theater Announces The Pipeline Festival Complete Lineup

Revisited Classics Stages Free Reading of Anton Chekhov's THREE SISTERS on 3/7

Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, co-adapted by Shawn Rene Graham and John-Martin Green is transposed to America in the early 1900s.  Set on a cavalry outpost in rural Texas, this is the tale of a group of cultured, intelligent blacks in turn-of-the-century America observing the kind of entitlement that wealthy whites had always taken for granted, and the price they pay for that entitlement. The reading is on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

The Playwriting Collective Kicks Off its Inaugural Reading Series

Playwrights Joshua Young and Phillip Christian along with director Lucia Bellini have formed The Playwriting Collective - a new production company aimed at raising up voices from lower class backgrounds. Specifically, The Collective is playwright driven, with a goal to finance and produce new works that support playwrights from poor economic environments and other marginalized communities.
