Goodman Theatre's world premiere of The Jungle Book begins previews on June 21 (opening night is July 1) and, with a second extension week just added, now runs through August 11. Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman reimagines Walt Disney's 1967 animated hit into a wholly original new work for the stage, drawing from both the film as well as Rudyard Kipling's 1894 collection of stories set in the Indian jungle and featuring original Indian-inspired music and dance. As previously announced, 10-year-old Akash Chopra makes his Chicago debut as young "man cub" Mowgli, who comes of age with the help of the anthropomorphic singing and dancing jungle animals; joining him in the role at select performances is Roni Akurati, who most recently appeared at the Goodman as Tiny Tim in the 2011 production of A Christmas Carol.

Speaking on tonight's Tonys red carpet, composing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul revealed that they are writing an original musical to be directed by Michael Greif, as well as crafting a new stage musical for Disney. The duo is nominated tonight for Best Score for A Christmas Story - The Musical, which they say has hopes of returning to Broadway -- or at least New York -- every year for the holiday season.

Disney Theatrical Group today, Monday 3 June 2013, announced that it would be holding exploratory open auditions in London for NEWSIES this month.

According to rumors and other reports by whatsonstage.com, producers of Disney's NEWSIES may be getting closer to finding a home in the West End late 2013 or early 2014. According to reporst, Disney is 'trying to secure either the Piccadilly or the Savoy theatres' for Spring 2014. A venue may be announced as early as next week.

SILENCE! THE MUSICAL will play a special added holiday performance today at the Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square. The show, which normally plays at 5 PM on Sundays, will have two performances today at 2 & 7 PM. The Lortel Awards were handed out on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at NYU Skirball Center, hosted by acclaimed stage and screen actors Aasif Mandvi and Maura Tierney. This year's event once again benefited The Actors Fund.
