In its eight year history, Caruso's famous open mike night at Birdland has seen a huge number of major stars drop in unannounced. Fans pack the place hoping it might be the night that Michael Feinstein, Liza, Chita, Tony Bennett, Larry Gatlin, Lucie, Marilyn Maye, Paul Schaffer, Cheyenne Jackson, might pop in and sing a song or two. At Town Hall, last night, February 17th, Cast Party brought out the big guns for The Best of Jim Caruso's Cast Party in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs.

WEST SIDE STORY was a landmark work when it premiered some fifty odd years ago. There had been ‘serious' musicals before; SHOW BOAT from decades earlier was certainly not a musical comedy. I do believe WEST SIDE STORY was the first successful musical driven by dance. How intoxicating those dance sequences in WEST SIDE STORY remain all these decades later. The dance in WEST SIDE STORY is from the genius of Jerome Robbins. If we are to believe some sources, including the show's original Anita, Chita Rivera, the ‘shark' dances were done by Robbins' assistant, Peter Gennaro.

Two time Emmy nominee Colleen Zenk who played Barabara Ryan on As The World Turns for 32 years is readying to premiere her new one-woman cabaret show aptly titled COLLEEN ZENK: LIVE! The show will debut on Friday April 8th at Bob Egan's New Hope - one of the country's leading cabaret showrooms.

The tour of the recent smash hit Broadway production of WEST SIDE STORY is coming to Fort Lauderdale. WEST SIDE STORY will open at Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday February 15 for a two-week run through Sunday, February 27. Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction has been recreated for the tour by David Saint, the Associate Director on Broadway.
