Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts Welcomes Bobby McFerrin Tonight

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College will open its 60th Anniversary Season with a concert by 10-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin tonight, November 1, 2014 at 8pm. Best known for the global number one hit 'Don't Worry Be Happy,' Mr. McFerrin is a percussive, improvisational genius who has stirred audiences through the years with the sounds of the voice box, fusing into his work dozens of different languages and cultures from all over the world. Tickets for this one-night-only event are $36-$60 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm).

Billy Childs Opens Segerstrom Center's 2014-15 Jazz Season Tonight

When composer/arranger/pianist Billy Childs was introduced to the music of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Laura Nyro at the age of 11, he was left with a powerful and lasting impression of Nyro's unique blend of Broadway-inspired melodies, jazz improvisations and socially conscious lyrics. Childs returned to that early experience for his latest project, creating and orchestrating his newest album, Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro. Orange County jazz fans will have the opportunity to hear Childs' loving homage to the late great Nyro at Segerstrom Center for the Arts tonight, October 17 at 8 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Center Stage Opera Announces September Schedule; Guitar Artist to Play, 9/6

Guitar virtuoso Adam del Monte presents an exclusive benefit concert for Center Stage Opera on Saturday, Sept. 6, 3 pm, at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, 10000 Sepulveda Blvd. in Mission Hills. Adam del Monte is a guitarist whose blinding virtuosity electrifies audiences wherever he performs. Born in Israel, del Monte grew up in Malaga and Granada, Spain. His father was his first guitar teacher, and, at age 7, he spent two months living with a gypsy family in the caves of Sacromonte in Granada, surrounded by the sights and sounds of gypsy music and dance. Today, he is recognized around the world as an amazing performer, composer and teacher. In recent years, Candelas Guitars has unveiled the Adam del Monte models of classical and flamenco guitars.
