On February 18, 2013, Silk Road Rising, the League of Chicago Theatres and Lifeline Theatre hosted a panel discussion and community conversation that addressed challenges faced by Asian American actors, particularly as regards casting, questions that theatres face in producing plays with Asian American content, as well as broader community concerns with productions that are not perceived as culturally authentic. Victory Gardens Receives Largest Individual Gift in its History

Victory Gardens Theater announces a generous $350,000 gift from Steven and Diane Miller. President of the Victory Gardens Board since July 2012, Steven Miller has been involved with the organization since the late 1990s, joining as a board member in 2008. His gift marks the single largest individual contribution in the Theater's thirty-eight year history.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' APPROPRIATE to Play Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival, 3/5-4/7

Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein have announced the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins Appropriate, directed by Gary Griffin, appearing as part of the 37th Humana Festival of New American Plays. Appropriate begins previews on March 5, opens March 7 and runs through April 7.

In the spirit of the beloved hit The Black Rider, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) continues the tradition of introducing eclectic, unforgettable musical projects to the stage with the world premiere of Stuck Elevator. A visionary musical work, Stuck Elevator is based on the true story of Gu?ng (?), a Chinese deliveryman who was trapped in a Bronx elevator for 81 hours.

'Race and Representation in Chicago Theater' Conversations Begin at Victory Gardens Theater

Victory Gardens Theater, The League of Chicago Theatres, Silk Road Rising and Lifeline Theatre are collaborating on a new conversation series, Race and Representation in Chicago Theater, that will discuss the issues of race and representation in Chicago's theater community. The series, featuring panelists to include actors, playwrights and directors, will focus on the importance of cultivating, developing and producing work that "looks like Chicago," and will frame for both artists and audiences the importance of accurate representations in the work we experience together. Race and Representation in Chicago Theater comprises two events, Playing Race, to be hosted at Victory Gardens on Thursday, January 31 following the 7:30PM performance of Disconnect; and Building a Theatre of Inclusion: Perspectives on Asian American Casting and Producing, to be held at Silk Road Rising on Monday, February 18 at 7:00PM.

A.C.T. Receives NEA Grant to Support STUCK ELEVATOR World Premiere, 4/4-28

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is one of 832 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. A.C.T. is recommended for a $40,000 grant to support the world premiere of Stuck Elevator. With a libretto by Aaron Jafferis and music by Byron Au Yong, this music-theater work will make its debut at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater April 4-28, 2013.

Victory Gardens Theater announces the world premiere of Mojada by VG Associate Artist Luis Alfaro as its final play of the 2012-2013 season. Mojada will replace Ensemble Playwright Marcus Gardley's previously announced Chicago is Burning. Mojada will run July 12-August 11, 2013, and Press Opening will be Monday, July 22, 2013 at 7:30pm.
