Tony Award winner (and son of Charlie Chaplin) Sydney Earle Chaplin has died at age 82. Chaplin won the Tony for his performance opposite Judy Holiday in the musical BELLS ARE RINGING. He was nominated for his role of Nicky Arnstein in Funny Girl opposite Barbara Streisand.
Chaplin also appeared in the films Limelight, Land of the Pharaohs, Confession as well as several others.
Desire Under the Elms at Goodman Theater opens tonight. Rumors have spread that the show has Broadway in its sights, and hopes to come to New York next spring.
The show has been extended before opening night, as it will now play through March 1.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced today that their board of governors have voted to give Jerry Lewis the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Lewis is to be presented with the special Oscar statuette on February 22, 2009 during the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
Desire Under the Elms has just announced that it will transfer from Chicago's Goodman Theatre to Broadway's St. James Theater. Previews will begin on April 14, with opening night set for April 27th.
Comedic actress Dilys Laye has passed away at the age of 74. She had been suffering from cancer.
Laye is best known for her roles in the 'Carry On' films and also appeared in the Charlie Chaplin directed film 'A Countess From Hong Kong.'
On stage she was seen in the UK productions of The Secret Garden, Oklahoma!, Make Me An Offer and For Amusement Only.

Linda Hope joined U.S. Postal Service Governor Katherine C. Tobin today to preview the stamp image depicting Hope's father, iconic entertainer Bob Hope. The ceremony took place during festivities to rename the Ellis Island Research Library to the Bob Hope Memorial Library. The stamp dedication ceremony to commemorate Bob Hope on a First-Class Commemorative stamp will take place May 29 in California on what would have been his 106th birthday.
