John Waters, Rita Mae Brown to Be Honored at the 27th Annual Lambda Literary Awards

Lambda Literary is pleased to announce that John Waters will receive Lambda's Trustee Award for Excellence in Literature an Rita Mae Brown will receive the Pioneer Award at the 27th Annual Lambda Literary Awards ('Lammys'). Waters and Brown will be honored along with the winning authors of 24 separate LGBT literary categories as determined by over 90 judges. The Lammys bring together over 450 attendees, sponsors and celebrities to celebrate excellence in LGBT literature, making it the most glamorous and prestigious LGBT literary event in the world. The awards will be hosted for the fourth year in a row by comedienne Kate Clinton on Monday, June 1st in New York City at The Great Hall at Cooper Union (7 East 7th St @ 3rd Ave, New York City) with a pre-ceremony reception presented by Penguin Random House. A VIP After-Party presented by Scholastic will immediately follow the ceremony.

The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance forges forward with the 14th annual BAAD!ASS WOMEN FESTIVAL, celebrating the empowerment of women through art, culture and performance. The festival takes place at BAAD!'s new location, 2474 Westchester Avenue in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx. Ticket prices vary from free to $20. Participants can take advantage of the Five for $5 special (you and four "girlfriends" make a group of five and pay only $5 each with a prior reservation.) BAAD! The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance proudly presents LOS NUTCRACKERS: A CHRISTMAS CARAJO, written by Charles Rice-Gonzalez, directed by Christopher Burris. The play, returning to BAAD!'s stage for the tenth exciting year, interweaves two holiday classics, The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, and creates a queer, Latino play about a gay couple who go on a psychedelic trip through their lives one Christmas Eve. The play will be presented December 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8pm, and on Saturday, December 21 at 3pm at the new BAAD!, 2474 Westchester Avenue in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx.
