MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY & INDIAN INK & More Set for A.C.T.'s 2014-15 Season

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced today four of the seven productions that will comprise the lineup of the company's 48th subscription season, including two of the most acclaimed new works of the last year, a remounting of one of A.C.T.'s biggest hits in an all-new production, as well as a sumptuous production of one of Stephen Sondheim's most rapturous and seductive musicals. In addition, the 2014-15 season will include the inaugural production at the brand-new, state-of-the-art Strand Theater, located in the revitalized Central Market Street Corridor. The additional three productions for the 2014-15 season, as well as the complete show order and performance schedule, will be announced at a later date.

Walnut Street Theatre to Present 'ALEXANDER,' 1/31-2/8

Walnut Street Theatre for Kids' is thrilled to welcome back Alexander and friends in Alexander Who's Not Not Not Not Not Not Going to Move following the success of last season's production of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. This hour-long musical adaptation of Judith Viorst's third book in her popular children series will be LIVE on the Walnut's stage January 31st through February 8th, 2014.

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 1/6- OLIVER!

Today in 1963, Oliver! opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 774 performances. Oliver! is a British musical, with script, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. Major London revivals played from 1994-1998 and again from 2008-2011.

Retired Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher Will Make Goodman Debut for Make-A-Wish Illinois Today

Goodman Theatre's 7th annual 'Make-A-Wish Night' features the superstar former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher and 17-year-old beneficiary Kenneth Schumacher, who wishes to be a part of a professional theatrical production. Urlacher and Schumacher don costumes tailored especially for them and appear in select scenes of the 36th annual production of A Christmas Carol, Chicago's favorite holiday tradition. BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL Transfigured by Elements Theatre Company

Over two weekends in December, the Elements Theatre Company in Orleans employed a panoply of sensory stimuli in a Readers' Theatre form of John Mortimer's adaptation of Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL. With vivacity unexpected in a staged reading, Director Sr. Danielle Dwyer and her talented ensemble brought the ghost story to life in the sanctuary of the Church of the Transfiguration, proving that the tale of one man's redemption resonates and endures.

I feel that Irish-American theater typically goes in one of two ways. The first way, the most typical way, is down a dark, winding path of alcoholism, bitterness and dirty jokes.
