Donald Harrison, Jonathan Demme, Nona Hendryx and More Present Reading of THE AMERICAN SLAVE COAST

The American Slave Coast: Live, an electrifying live musical reading from Ned and Constance Sublette's powerful new book The American Slave Coast: A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry, takes place at Symphony Space on Friday, October 28 (8 pm). An exciting group of cutting-edge actors, vocalists, and musicians - including renowned film director Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married), funk/R&B goddess Nona Hendryx of Labelle, acclaimed spoken word artist Carl Hancock Rux, Native American country singer Kandia Crazy Horse, and jazz/soul vocalist Lezlie Harrison - will bring the book's many voices to life. The cast will interact with a live musical ensemble directed by renowned New Orleans composer and bandleader Donald Harrison, along with projected imagery.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center Announces PRELUDE 2016

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at The Graduate Center, CUNY is pleased to announce the full lineup of its thirteenth annual PRELUDE Festival.  Dedicated to artists at the forefront of contemporary New York City theatre and performance, PRELUDE 2016 features an array of artists working in theatrical and interdisciplinary performance.  The festival gives audiences and artists a survey of the current moment in New York via in-process performances, conversations, and workshops.

PlayCo Executive Producer to Step Down

The Play Company (PlayCo)'s Founding Producer Kate Loewald announced today that fellow Executive Producer Lauren Weigel will step down from her position on June 30, 2016. The Play Company will begin the search for a new team member this week. Under Lauren Weigel's leadership as Executive Producer, PlayCo has become the only New York theater to regularly produce international contemporary plays alongside new American work. Weigel has been intrinsic in advancing PlayCo's unique commitment to premiering work from around the world to advance a dynamic, international experience of contemporary theater in New York.

Visionary director Julie Taymor curates and hosts the first National Sawdust+ concert tonight, November 6 at 7:30pm. The production makes its New York Premiere, presented by Julia Wolfe, SITI Company and Bang on a Can All-Stars, at the BAM Harvey Theater (651 Fulton St), December 2-6, 2015.
