Matrix Theatre Company Founder & CEO to Retire

After 24 years of dedication to Matrix Theatre Company, founder and CEO, Dr. Shaun Nethercott is retiring from her leadership position effective September 30, 2015. Upon her retirement, Dr. Nethercott will travel to Wyoming to spend time with her family, and continue her writing work.

Woodshed Collective, leaders of audience immersive, site specific performance and creators of Twelve Ophelias ('A deconstructed masterstroke' - New York Press) The Tenant ('A great theatrical tapestry of vintage grit...a triumph of simultaneity and atmosphere' - Village Voice) , and The Confidence Man ('A breathtaking stunt! 5 STARS!' - Adam Feldman, TimeOutNY), present Empire Travel Agency, a unique theatrical experience that allows four audience members at a time to participate in the performance, taking them on a surreal quest through lower Manhattan. Tickets are free and performances begin August 19th with trips running six nights a week through September 27th. Nilo Cruz, Lisa Loomer, Octavio Solis & More Set for Hero Theatre's FESTIVAL IRENE

Pulitzer-winning writer of Anna in the Tropics, Nilo Cruz, will be one of the playwrights featured in Hero Theatre's Festival Irene: Celebrating the Legacy of Maria Irene Fornes. The festival will include some of Fornes' most celebrated plays and feature works from some of her former students. Other Award-winning playwrights and former Fornes students that are part of the festival include Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas (Bird In the Hand), Migdalia Cruz (Miriam's Flowers), Lisa Loomer (Distracted), Eduardo Machado (The Cook), Cherrie Moraga (Heroes and Saints), Octavio Solis (Lydia) and Caridad Svich (Antigone Project).

He takes on The Statue of Liberty in the fight of a lifetime; the high-stakes boxing match that is immigration today. Is Manuel worthy? No one is spared in this political comedy that pulls no punches about immigration reform and the American Dream.

Milagro Artistic Director Olga Sanchez to Exit

Olga Sanchez, Artistic Director since 2003, will be leaving Milagro next season to begin a new chapter in her artistic life at the University of Oregon, where she will pursue a Doctorate in Theatre Arts.  "I'm delighted to join the academic program at University of Oregon, led by Prof. John Schmor", who penned the award-winning theatrical adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin's "The Left Hand of Darkness" for the Hand2Mouth-Portland Playhouse collaboration. "Their commitment to artistic practice, as well as scholarly rigor, and to illuminating and actively nurturing the growing cultural diversity of American theatre is immensely appealing. I'm looking forward to this new phase of critical learning and practice."

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) continues the Ignite! Festival of New Plays. Taking place in March, the festival will include commissions of nationally recognized playwrights, culminating with three public readings including This Thing of Ours by Caridad Svich and directed by Emily Mendelsohn; The Full Catastrophe by Michael Weller, based on the novel by David Carkeet and directed by Seth Gordon; and Molly's Hammer by Tammy Ryan, based on the book Hammer of Justice by Liane Ellison Norman and directed by Seth Gordon. The festival productions will take place in the Sally S. Levy Opera Center, located at 210 Hazel Avenue, directly behind the Loretto-Hilton Center.
