East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is proud to present Politics in Play, a series of staged play readings tackling the nation's current state of affairs, as part of a new initiative to showcase diverse, political voices in the theater. Politics in Play will commence with After Orlando: an international theatre action, in response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting, on October 17, 2016; Mike Daisey's The Trump Card (Diana Wyenn, Director) on October 23, 2016; and Christopher Chen's Mutt: Let's All Talk About Race! (Rodney To, Director) on November 1, 2016.

The Trap Door Theatre presents Fantasy Island For Dummies (low cut daydream too near, too near), written by Ruth Margraff and directed by Kate Hendrickson, with original music composed by Nikos Brisco. The production opens Today, September 29, 2016 at 8 p.m. and runs through Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Windy City Playhouse, Chicago's most sophisticated theater, presents the Chicago premiere of Apartment 3A by Emmy award-winning, twice Tony award-nominated actor/musician Jeff Daniels.

Kangagirl Productions (Margaret Nolan, artistic director) in partnership with Missing Bolts Productions (Blair Baker & Zac Kline, artistic directors) and NoPassport Theatre Alliance & Press (Caridad Svich, founder) will present a special staged reading of original short plays written in response to the shooting at Pulse Nightclub.

Fantasy Island for Dummies (low cut daydream too near, too near) is a new music-theatre work inspired by an episode of the iconic television series about the pleasures and perils of wish fulfillment. Devised in a collaborative exploration with Trap Door Theater actors, the piece is written by Ruth Margraff and directed by Kate Hendrickson, with original music composed by Pink Velvet. A 1980 "Fantasy Island" episode about a ventriloquist and her devious dummy inspires a voyage into suppressed identities, ancient Babylonian sex goddesses, and a "perfect wife" struggling with her defiant side. 

Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando Shakes) in Partnership with UCF invites audiences to take a risk on new plays at PlayFest presented by Harriett's Charitable Trust from November 3 - 6, 2016. This year's four-day event titled PlayFest: After Pulse will feature six new plays that explore issues surrounding the Pulse tragedy.

Led by facilitator Ben Krywosz and music director Roger Ames, the two-week Studio is designed to provide an opportunity for five writers and five composers to work with five professional performers, exploring the possibilities and basic elements of telling stories through music, whether the style is opera, musicals, or alternative work.

From wildly irreverent comedies to deeply moving dramas, the company continues its tradition of putting the full spectrum of the ever-changing face of the US on stage, celebrating the breadth of our humanity in content and in form.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater is seeking proposals from theater companies, ensembles and individual artists interested in participating in the 2016/17 Kogod Cradle Series as part of the American Voices New Play Institute. Now in its fifth season, the Kogod Cradle Series supports the exploration and development of new and emerging work in the theater's intimate 200-seat Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

Abingdon Theatre Company, in association with The Muse Project, will present STET, a new play inspired by true events, written by Kim Davies and developed by Kim Davies, Jocelyn Kuritsky and Artistic Director Tony Speciale. A limited Off-Broadway engagement will begin previews on June 11, as part of Abingdon's 2015-2016 Season, with an official press opening scheduled for June 23. Tickets are now on sale through July 3. Tony Speciale is set to direct the world-premiere production, which marks his inaugural programming as Artistic Director.

The Chicago theater community will present a wide variety of plays and musicals, as well as dance and concert offerings this summer. In support, the League of Chicago Theatres will once again create a comprehensive Summer Theater Guide that will be available at hotels, theaters, events, and destinations across the Chicago area.

Amphibian Stage Productions has announced the cast for its first staged reading of the 2016 season, De Troya by Caridad Svich. Featuring actors Kristen Kelso, Stefanie Tovar, Jennifer Faletto, Guinea Bennett-Price, Ricco Fajardo, Jackie Kemp, and musician Jesse Gage, the play will perform Sunday, May 15 and Monday, May 16 at the Berlene T. and Jarrell R. Milburn Theatre at Amphibian Stage Productions. David Lozano will direct.
