Center Stage Launches Playwrights Collective

Center Stage has launched a new endeavor for local playwrights. Dubbed the Playwrights Collective, the program will allow a rotating group of writers to develop work, foster collaborative connections, and share professional mentorship within the framework of a resident regional theater. At the same time, it allows Center Stage to feed back into and help foster the local artistic ecology.

Williamstown Theatre Festival Selects 2014 L. Arnold Weissberger Award Winner

Williamstown Theatre Festival has announced that Abe Koogler's Kill Floor is the winner of the 2014 L. Arnold Weissberger Award. The play, which will premiere at Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3 this fall, will be introduced to audiences at a reading at Williamstown Theatre Festival on Friday, August 7 at 3:00pm on the Nikos Stage. Lila Neugebauer will direct both the reading and LCT3 production.

Steve Silver Foundation & 'Beach Blanket Babylon' Announce 2015 'Scholarship for the Arts' Finalists

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the nine Bay Area seniors selected as finalists for the Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon 'Scholarship for the Arts.' Each of the finalists will perform live in front of friends, family and a panel of celebrity judges on Monday, June 1. One winner in each category will be presented with a check for $10,000 towards their college education. The nine high school seniors who will perform are:

Emily Mann to Lead National Artist Advisory Committee

The Hermitage Artist Retreat is pleased to announce that multi-award-winning Director and Playwright Emily Mann will head its National Artist Advisory Committee, replacing Brooklyn Academy of Music Executive Producer Joseph V. Melillo, who has held the position since its inception in 2005. The group is responsible for recommending mid-career artists who are invited to receive six-week residencies at the Hermitage Artist Retreat on Manasota Key in Englewood, FL. The prestigious committee includes some of America's finest directors, curators, and artists. Serving with Ms. Mann are Dr. Tony Bannon, Director Burchfield-Penny Arts Center; Dan Cameron, former Chief Curator, Orange County Museum of Art; Michael Bigelow Dixon, Assistant Professor of Theater, Transylvania University; Kenneth Fischer, President, University Musical Society; Linda S. Executive Director Ellen Richard to Exit A.C.T.

Ellen Richard, Executive Director of American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), announced today that she will be departing the Bay Area's premier nonprofit theater organization after five years at the helm. Richard will depart in spring 2015.
