Northlight Theatre couldn't have chosen a better time to launch this show. The current presidential race is perhaps the most polarizing in U.S. history, but playwright Anthony Giardina's drama, which begins in the late '70s, reminds us that the landscape was shifting long before The Donald promised to 'make America great again.'

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, presents the Midwest Premiere of The City of Conversation, opening Northlight's 42nd Season.  The City of Conversation by Anthony Giardina and directed by Marti Lyons, runs September 15 - October 23, 2016 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie. The press opening is scheduled for Friday, September 23 at 8 pm.

The Gift Theatre artistic director Michael Patrick Thornton announces the world premiere of intriguing and touching drama The Royal Society of Antarctica by Naperville native Mat Smart (whose play Naperville, which opened Off-Broadway in November, is a New York Times Critics' Pick). The Royal Society of Antarctica is directed by Gift ensemble member John Gawlik and features Gift ensemble members Paul D'Addario (Bethany), Lynda Newton (Thinner Than Water), John Connolly (Broadsword), Jay Worthington (Thinner Than Water) and Brittany Burch (Othello) with guest artists Aila Peck (Promethean Theatre's The Lark), Brian Keys (Profiles Theatre's Hellcab) and Kyle Zornes (Artistic Director of The Gift's Natural Gas).

For the past two seasons, including the 20th Anniversary production in 2012, Profiles revisited Kern's landmark play for the holiday season. Both productions recevied extended runs and played for over three months. First produced as a late-night show by Famous Door Theatre in 1992, Hellcab was originally scheduled for twelve performances. It ended up running for over nine years, becoming one of the longest running shows in Chicago theatre history. Richard Cotovsky played the Driver for nearly 18 months including return engagements logging in well over two hundred performances to make him one of the longest performing actors to play the Driver during its premiere. Hellcab has been performed all over the U.S. and abroad, including Scotland, Israel, Singapore, and Ireland, winning numerous awards, including a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival. Directed by Profiles ensemble member Eric Burgher, a cast of 34 joins Cotovsky as the beleaguered cab driver, a role he played for over two hundred performances during the world premiere run. Profiles' production runs at The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway, tonight, November 7, 2014 - January 11, 2015 with the press opening on Thursday, November 13 at 8:00 pm.

Soldiers' characters are put to the test in Raven Theatre's A Soldier's Play by Charles Fuller, directed by Michael Menendian.
