Walnut Street Theatre opens its landmark 209th season with the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Directed by, and starring, Frank Ferrante, with choreography by Michelle Gaudette, this production begins previews on September 5th, opens on September 13th and runs through October 22nd on the Walnut's Mainstage.

Among The Rising's recruits is Rachel, an angelic-looking would-be assassin on a mission to kill Governor Kerry Kale, a man who makes Trump look classy.  In an attempt to get closer to her target, Rachel finds the only person stupid enough to trust her, a sucker, I mean, reporter, Clint. Meanwhile, star news anchor, Scarlett West, uses Clint for her own purposes -  to broadcast Governor Kale's assassination, live.

 This summer, Theater at Monmouth encourages you to "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none" (All's Well That Ends Well). The plays of Season 48 explore the role of power, passion, and privilege in families, friendships, society, and politics. Through classic Shakespearean thrillers, contemporary romances, and fantastical flights of fantasy, the dynamics of gender, race, and society take center stage in 2017. 

Following the successful, sold-out run of Leonard Bernstein's Candide, New York City Opera continues its 2016 - 2017 Concert Series with Oh, Happy Us, a romantic evening of song that reunites Candide stars Jay Armstrong Johnson (Candide), Meghan Picerno (Cunegonde), and Jessica Tyler Wright (Paquette). Legendary choreographer of stage and film, Patricia Birch directs this concert of selections from classic and contemporary musical theater that explores continuity in love and life. This one-night-only performance will take place on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Appel Room.

'Romeo and Juliet' is a timeless story of young love which has been imitated in countless ways over the decades, even catapulted into the musical theatre stratosphere with 'West Side Story'. 

The Media Theatre will produce its first Shakespeare classic in January and February 2017 when 'Romeo and Juliet' takes the winter slot as its annual play.

The Merry Old Land of Oz lands in Philly in time for the Holiday Season.

The Theater at Monmouth's new production of Pierre de Beaumarchais' delightful, provocative 18th century comedy, The Barber of Seville, (in translation by Elizabeth Griffith) sparkles not only with saucy wit, but also with a striking modernity. The first play from the French master's Figaro trilogy is a comedy of manners about marriage with the underlying theme - embodied in the wily Figaro - of class conflict. And though the historical context is Enlightenment France, Rosine's quest for self-determination and love and Figaro's cheerfully impudent challenging of a hierarchical society ring with relevance.

One of Shakespeare's best-loved history plays, Henry V, opened Friday July 23 at Maine's Theater at Monmouth in a stylish and stirring performance directed by Mark Mineart. Trimmed to a little over two hours, the production, nonetheless, keeps the architecture of the masterpiece and all the most famous speeches, and performed as it is by a strong ensemble, it achieves an immediacy and truthfulness.
