Mannes School of Music And Rovaco Dance Present 7:1, May 13th

7:1 is a four-month long interdisciplinary collaboration between seven composers from Mannes School of Music and Rovaco Dance Company choreographer Rohan Bhargava. It results in the creation of seven new works of contemporary dance and music.

Sergio Trujillo Brings Underground World of Buenos Aires to A.R.T. in ARRABAL

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Director Diane Quinn, will present Arrabal, with a book written by John Weidman, music by Gustavo Santaolalla / Bajofondo, choreographed by Julio Zurita, and directed and co-choreographed by Sergio Trujillo.

Meany Center For The Performing Arts Announces 2017-18 Season

Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington announces its 2017-2018 Season, presenting 25 international artists and ensembles representing 14 countries and cultures, including Mali, Cuba, Macedonia, Iran, Armenia, Israel, Great Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Taiwan, Hungary, Spain and the USA.

Lawrence Brownlee Joins Opera Philadelphia As Artistic Advisor

Opera Philadelphia announced today that Lawrence Brownlee, whose lead performance in the 2015 world premiere of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD kick started the company's “big commitment to new repertoire” (The Wall Street Journal), has joined the company as an Artistic Advisor.

Lane Czaplinski Named Director of Performing Arts at Wexner Center

Lane Czaplinski will assume the position of director of performing arts at the Wexner Center for the Arts, effective June 1. Czaplinski will succeed Charles Helm, the Wex's current performing arts director, who will retire June 30 after 26 extraordinary years with the center.

Harlem Stage's E-MOVES 18 presents New and Innovative Works

The Harlem Stage dance series, E-Moves promises to present a broad spectrum of choreographers of color who work across the spectrum of contemporary idioms. This year the acclaimed dance series has commissioned new works from two established and two emerging choreographers. Under the curatorship of Charmaine Warren, the E-Moves 18 lineup includes four artists with work that intersects the questions and impact of the world around them. Francesca Harper who continues to seek answers for life's challenges; Parijat Desai whose work is realized through her unique blend of contemporary dance and Indian forms; Kyle Marshall who quietly investigates black culture through dance; and Leyland Simmons who makes ballets that break from the classical mold.

Liz Lerman Receives 2017 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award

The 2017 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to choreographer, performer, writer, educator, and speaker Liz Lerman in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field.  Long ago dubbed the “Democrat of Dance” by Alan M. Kriegsman of The Washington Post, Lerman's extraordinary career of the past four decades includes a wide range of groundbreaking work. Established in 2007, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award's previous recipients include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and choreographer, performer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown, among others.

Improvised, Acrobatic Pretension Descends on Philly 4/6-8

Called "The little dance theatre troupe that could" by Philadelphia's City Paper, Almanac was founded in 2013 by Nick Gillette and Ben Grinberg, graduates of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training, with Adam Kerbel, a graduate of the Headlong Performance Institute. The company pursues present performance at the edge of what is possible, through playful honesty.

SF DanceWorks Announces 2017 Season

Now in its second season,SFDanceworks, a repertory dance company founded by San Francisco Ballet soloist James Sofranko, has announced details for this year's program, June 22-24, co-presented by ODC Theater. The U.S. premiere of British choreographer Christopher Bruce's Shadows and a newly commissioned work by Izzie Award-winning dance maker James Graham highlight a season that also includes works by Alejandro Cerrudo, José Limón, Danielle Roweand Penny Saunders.

Orchestra of St. Luke's to Honor Pablo Heras-Casado and David Bury 4/12

The Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) will honor its Principal Conductor, Pablo Heras-Casado, and the Chairman of The Bay & Paul Foundations, David Bury, at its annual Gift of Music Gala on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at The Plaza Hotel. The event will feature a special performance by 2016 Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard with Pablo Heras-Casado and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and will be hosted by mezzo-soprano and OSL board member Susan Graham.
