William B. Moran Pens THE END OF GAY

After working for years on a private project, geneticist Robert Zemanovic is ready to begin the next phase of his research: gene therapy on human volunteers. He's kept his discovery - up until now - under wraps, believing that the world is not quite ready to hear about the gene mutation that causes homosexuality. But when volunteers begin arriving at his doorstep, he can no longer keep his discovery a secret, especially from his family. When 'Zem,' as he's known to his colleagues at the National Institutes of Health, must reveal the nature of his work, things begin to spin out of control. 'The End of Gay,' the newest novel from William B. Moran, tells the story of a reserved middle-aged scientist who earned his Ph.D. from Stanford's genetic program and spent his career at the NIH. He's invested everything into his private research, spending his nights and weekends in his lab in the attic at his home, keeping it secret from his family: wife Angela and their three children, Paul, 25; Nathan, 22; Laura, 18. His decision to provide gene therapy to volunteers to attempt to correct their sexual orientation has lasting consequences at home, at work and for the very people he's trying to help. A connection with a member of his own family adds further stress, and when a reporter shows up, thanks to a tip from someone close to the family with an agenda all his own, the genie has been let out of the bottle. A story is published in the newspaper, relationships are pushed to the breaking point, and the law begins to catch up with Zem and his secret research. In the end, he must make a decision that will change things forever. In the last 20 years, author William Moran has presided in cases involving governmental agencies in his role as a federal administrative law judge, including cases brought by the Environmental Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. Moran, who has a law degree from Suffolk University Law School and a master's degree in law from Georgetown Law, grew up in Arlington, Mass. He now lives in Brewster. 'The End of Gay' is his third novel. He is also the author of 'One Season, A baseball Tale,' a whimsical story about a middle-aged lawyer who discovers he can pitch in the major leagues, and 'ALJ,' which centers on corruption with Social Security disability claims.
