Grease is the word! The original West End production of the electrifying musical, Grease, lights up the UK once again as it embarks on a national tour, opening at the Palace Theatre Manchester on Friday 10 March 2017. The cast will be led by international pop star Tom Parker (The Wanted) in his first ever theatrical role, heart-throb Danny Zuko.
The Strictly Come Dancing stars were out in force for the West End opening of Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace's stage show The Last Tango at Phoenix Theatre. 13 years after it opened in Melbourne, Queen and Ben Elton's rock theatrical We Will Rock You once again opened in a revival production that still rocked, albeit pretty limply. Let's get something straight, Queen's catalogue rolls out hit after hit throughout the show but it's script and the integration of these hits still remains problematic 13 years on. I was desperately hoping for some adaptions, some tweaking of the show that would make a meaningful difference to its storytelling. There were changes...Killer Queen's Play the Game has been scrapped for the utterly boring Now I'm Here while You're My Best Friend has also been added, serving no real purpose other than to lengthen an already tedious Act 1. It's so long in fact, and certainly feels it, that some slept while many audience left at interval.

Director/choreographer Arlene Phillips is to helm the world premiere of new British rock musical, written and co-directed by Sam Cassidy. The show runs 8 September-22 October at London's Cockpit Theatre, with press night on 12 September.
Segerstrom Center for the Arts begins its 30th Anniversary celebration with another one-night-only star-studded evening of dance: Tour de Force III. The performance will be the first event to represent the array and diversity of the Center's artistic programming, in this case, 30 years of presenting the greatest ballet companies and the world's most celebrated dancers. Tour de Force III will be on Saturday, August 27 in Segerstrom Hall. Produced in collaboration with Ardani Artists, the program will include four Center premieres: Clay by Vladimir Varnava, Zeitgeist by Alastair Marriott, Tristesse by Marcelo Gomes and Le Divertissement du Roi by Maxim Petrov. The international cast includes Diana Vishneva, Joaquin de Luz, Marcelo Gomes, Denis Matvienko, Marcelino Sambe?, Friedemann Vogel and Edward Watson, as well as members of the The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada.
