Anne Akiko Meyers to Perform with Pasadena Symphony, 11/7

The Pasadena Symphony continues their newly-expanded 2015-2016 Singpoli Classics Series on Saturday, November 7th with Anne Akiko Meyers performing her poetic and powerful Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Billboard's 2014 Top-Selling Classical Instrumentalist, Meyers' recordings have consistently met with acclaim, with her Four Seasons debuting # 1 on the Classical Billboard charts. Audiences can hear Meyers bring this chart-topping recording to life at Ambassador Auditorium with both matinee and evening performances at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. A Native of Southern California and a former student of the Colburn School of Performing Arts, Meyers returns to her roots for this exclusive Los Angeles performance, further cementing the Pasadena Symphony as the premiere destination for live symphonic music in the Pasadena region.  

Red Bull Theater to Open Season with Gala Benefit Reading Featuring Michael Urie, Reg Rogers & Veanne Cox

Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Artistic Director) today announced that their Twelfth Season will kick off with a special benefit reading and party on Monday October 26th (7:30pm): George Etherege's The Man Of Mode, or, Sir Fopling Flutter, directed by Jesse Berger, starring Reg Rogers and Veanne Cox and featuring Michael Urie as Sir Fopling, along with Matthew Amendt, Suzanne Bertish, Angel Desai, Ryan Garbayo, Adam Green, Kathryn Meisle, Amelia Pedlow, Everett Quinton, Liv Rooth, Marc Vietor, Spiff Weigand, and more The Man of Mode will feature live music by Scott Killian. 

Emery Battis Award Recipients Announced

Iman and Pedlow were chosen for their 2014-2015 Mainstage Season performances as the beleaguered serving wench Aldonza in Man of La Mancha and the poetry-obsessed Lucille in The Metromaniacs, respectively. The awards were presented on October 13, 2015, at the Opening Night dinner for the first show of STC's new Mainstage Season, Salome, hosted by the Board of Trustees. Iman and Pedlow each received a $5,000 cash prize made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor, along with a crystal sculpture commemorating their achievement.

Victoria Clark to Host NAMT's SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE; Cabaret Lineups Complete

National Alliance for Musical Theatre (Betsy King Militello, Executive Director) is thrilled to announce the cast for the SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE and the SONGWRITERS CABARET at the 27th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16. Both events take place at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). In person registration for industry members will be available on Thursday at 9:30 AM at New World Stages (340 West 50 Street). Playwrights Horizons Extends Taylor Mac's HIR

Due to popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced an extension of its New York premiere production of HIR, a new play by Obie Award-winning theater artist Taylor Mac (A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, The Lily's Revenge, The Walk Across America for Mother Earth, The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, The Young Ladies Of), directed by theater director and performance artist Niegel Smith (Artistic Director of The Flea).  Originally set to play a limited engagement through Sunday, November 29, the production will now play an additional week through Sunday, December 6. 

Tony Award Winner Susan Stroman to Debut in Lyric Opera of Chicago's THE MERRY WIDOW, 11/14

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents the sparkling operetta The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar in a new-to-Chicago production directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Presented in English with projected titles, the production opens on Saturday, November 14 with 10 performances through Sunday, December 13. Oppressed in Heels & A Letter for You to Present THE TROJAN WOMEN, 10/23-11/1

Oppressed in Heels and A Letter for You presents THE TROJAN WOMEN, a new devised work pulled from interviews of women dealing with war in its many ravaging forms weaved into the narrative of Euripides' classic text. Nathaniel P. Claridad (the original company of Here Lies Love) directs and serves as head writer for the new investigative theatre piece that will play October 23rd through November 1 at the Access Theatre.

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) begins accepting entries today, Wednesday, October 7, for the LIVEforFIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to their New York premiere of HIR, a new play by Obie Award-winning theater artist Taylor Mac (A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, The Lily's Revenge, The Walk Across America for Mother Earth, The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, The Young Ladies Of).  Directed by theater director and performance artist Niegel Smith (Artistic Director of The Flea), the play is the second production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.   

Jock Soto & Carmelita Tropicana to Host 31st Annual Bessie Awards

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce the lineup of special guests for the 2015 ceremony. Acclaimed former New York City Ballet principal Jock Soto and performance artist and playwright Carmelita Tropicana will host the event. The 31st Annual Bessie Awards will be held on Monday, October 19, at 7:30pm, at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. Doors open at 6:30pm for red carpet and pre-show celebrations.
