Yale Institute Announces 3 Original Music Workshops 6/7-6/21

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director; Beth Morrison, Producer) announces the three original music theatre works to receive two-week workshops in New Haven, June 7-21. The three selected works are: Cancer? the musical Music, Book, and Lyrics by Sam Wessels

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co Returns To NYC 3/11

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company returns to New York City for a special performance this Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 8:00 pm at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU, 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South, NYC. Co-presented by the A/P/A Institute at NYU, this special Free program choreographed by Burgess deals with relationships and finding a sense of self and calm in the calamity of life.

Radiohole Receives PS122 Spalding Gray Award

Performance Space 122 announced that Radiohole is the recipient of the third Spalding Gray Award. The award is a special commission created in Spalding Gray's honor by Performance Space 122, together with Kathleen Russo, UCLA Live, and The Walker Arts Center. The recipient of this year's award receives a full production in the 2009-10 seasons at P.S. 122 and The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, as well as a stipend for its creation. The Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh was also announced as a partner in the award.

2009 Festival Of New American Musicals Held April-July

The 2009 Festival of New American Musicals, a four-month musical theatre festival, will be held in April through July, 2009, throughout Southern California. Marcia Seligson, Bob Klein, and Linda Shusett are the Executive Producers of the second annual Festival.

Fran Lebowitz Joins 'LEGENDS' Gala Reading 3/23

Friends In Deed has announced that famed author Fran Lebowitz has joined the upcoming One Night Only staged reading benefit of the infamous Broadway-play-that-wasn't, LEGENDS!. She will take the stage with fellow legends Charles Busch, Whoopi Goldberg and Lypsinka in the first-ever New York presentation of the play by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner James Kirkwood (A Chorus Line), which will be presented on Monday evening, March 23 at 8PM at Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).

Radiohead Playing Pianist Christopher O'Riley Begins Tours

He's charming, articulate, and a different kind of classical pianist. From his groundbreaking transcriptions of Radiohead to his powerful interpretations of repertoire classic and contemporary, pianist Christopher O'Riley has redefined the possibilities of classical music. He has taken his unique vision to both traditional classical music venues and symphonic settings, as well as to entirely new audiences on the radio, at universities and even clubs. As host of the most popular classical music radio show on the air today, National Public Radio's From the Top, Mr. O'Riley works and performs with the next generation of brilliant young musicians, demonstrating to audiences, with humour and lack of pretense, that these young artists are as diverse in their personal lives as they are in their music-making. In 2007, From the Top was filmed for public television in Zankel Concert Hall at Carnegie Hall and debuted on PBS in the spring. The series is now airing its third season.

Cumming, Loveless and Szot Featured in Lincoln Center's 'American Songbook' 2009 Season, Runs 1/14 - 3/6

Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook returns in January for its eleventh season celebrating the diversity of American popular song. For 17 nights of pop, folk, cabaret, R&B, country, rock, show tunes, bluegrass and multimedia, the series will explore the best of the golden age of musical standards through to today's most dynamic contemporary songwriting. The 2009 season - January 14 through March 6 - will bring to the stage some of today's most gifted interpreters of song, including top vocalist Kurt Elling and country's winning Patty Loveless. It will feature the rare opportunity to hear Paulo Szot, star of Broadway's South Pacific, and film and stage star Alan Cumming, in intimate concert settings.
