Girl Monday Holds Reading of DUO: 1 IS 1, 2 IS MATH

Duo: 1 Is 1 ; 2 Is Math.' ...The 'I Do I Do' for the new century. The story follows a couple from their first meeting (played by Chicago veterans Suzanne Petri and Roger Anderson) through their marriage. A Union filled with the ups and downs of their relationship as they move through their life together, growing, moving, changing, through difficult times and life's lessons until they discover 'Why We Stuck.' They are funny and moving and human. This sophisticated yet approachable play, directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member, Robert Breuler, is filled with new and affecting music composed by Elizabeth Doyle. 'Duo' is a new work that appeals to everyone from the young couples starting out to couples that are in the middle years-the difficult time in a relationship that is everyday yet long lasting. The story comes alive with insight, intelligence and wit. This is a staged reading and the producers, SuzBo Entertainment welcome suggested donations and feedback is strongly encouraged. A reception with refreshment will follow immediately after the reading.

MoMA Opens 'Counter Space', 9/15

The Museum of Modern Art presents Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen, an exhibition that examines the kitchen and its continual redesign as a barometer of changing ideologies and technologies, and explores the twentieth-century transformation of the kitchen as a space of huge symbolic and practical significance. On view from September 15, 2010, through March 14, 2011, its centerpiece is MoMA's recent acquisition of an unusually complete example of the iconic 'Frankfurt Kitchen.' Designed in 1926-27 by Grete Schütte-Lihotzky, it is the earliest work by a female architect in the collection. In the aftermath of World War I, thousands of these kitchens were manufactured for public-housing estates being built around Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, as part of a comprehensive program to modernize the city and society. Schütte-Lihotzky's compact and ergonomic design, with its integrated approach to storage, appliances, and work surfaces, reflected a commitment to transforming the lives of ordinary working people on an ambitious scale. Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen comprises works drawn from the Museum's collection, including design objects, photography, film, prints, drawings, and paintings. The exhibition is organized by Juliet Kinchin, Curator, and Aidan O'Connor, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Architecture and Design, The Museum of Modern Art.

'Andy Warhol: The Last Decade' Set for the Brooklyn Museum, 6/18-9/12

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first United States museum exhibition of the late works of American artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) and the first major Warhol survey in New York since the 1989 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. Created amid the frenetic activity of Warhol's celebrity, the nearly fifty paintings on view reveal the artist's vitality, energy, and spirit of experimentation. During this time Warhol produced more works, in a considerable number of series and on a vastly larger scale, than at any other point in his forty-year career. It was a decade of great artistic development for him, characterized by a dramatic transformation of his style and the introduction of new techniques.

MoMA and ArteEast Announce Film Innitiative

The Museum of Modern Art launches Mapping Subjectivity: Experimentation in Arab Cinema, 1960s-Now, a three-year program of annual screenings of groundbreaking films and videos, celebrated masterworks, and modern cinema from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Syria and more, beginning this fall. This in-depth initiative aims to map the largely unknown heritage of personal, artistic, and innovative cinema from the Arab world. In the 1960s, galvanized by a broader global vanguard of countercultural experimentation in the arts, filmmakers in these countries began to craft a language and form that broke away from established conventions and commercial considerations, ultimately clearing the ground for boldly subjective cinematic expressions. The Museum will screen each annual exhibition the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters and selections of the program will travel to the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Tate Modern in London, and subsequently touring throughout the Middle East and internationally. Mapping Subjectivity is a collaboration between The Museum of Modern Art and ArteEast, and is organized by Jytte Jensen, Curator, Department of Film, The Museum of Modern Art, and Rasha Salti, Curator and Artistic Director, ArteEast.
