Pasadena Symphony Opens 2016-17 Classics Season with Mendelssohn Violin Concerto

Music Director David Lockington and the Pasadena Symphony open the 2016-2017 Singpoli Classics Series with Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto on October 8, 2016 at Pasadena's historic Ambassador Auditorium with matinee and evening performances at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.  Audiences will delight in Mendelssohn's most lyrical of violin concertos, book-ended by Brahms' Symphony No. 4 and Andrew Norman's The Great Swiftness to round what Lockington calls "a program of great variety  -  a wonderful celebration to open our 16-17 season." This exhilarating performance kicks off the continuation of an expanded 6-concert Classics Series on the heels of last year's record-breaking season, which played host to three consecutive sold-out performances.

Violinist Jennifer Koh and Pianist Shai Wosner Perform in Recital Presented by Peoples' Symphony Concerts

 In their one and only New York recital as a duo this season, violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Shai Wosner perform a range of repertoire from their nearly ten years of musical collaboration. The program reflects their shared commitment to music of the past and present, comprising three violin sonatas-Beethoven's G major (Op. 96), Debussy's G minor (L. 140), and Faure's A major (Op. 13)-and two contemporary works, Gyorgy Kurtag's Tre Pezzi (1979) and Kaija Saariaho's Tocar (2010). Peoples' Symphony Concerts presents the recital at Washington Irving High School on Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Musiqa Announces 2016-17 Season

Musiqa is proud to announce its fifteenth-anniversary season, one which continues to explore new music and exciting partnerships with organizations in Houston's arts community. Musiqa will present top-quality chamber music at a variety of venues, as well as continue to foster young creative talent and present special programs for young audiences.

Mostly Mozart 2016 Artist Update: Thierry Fischer Replaces Andrés Orozco-Estrada

Lincoln Center announces an artist update for the August 2 and 3 Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra concerts at David Geffen Hall. Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, who was to make his New York debut and first Festival appearance, has reluctantly withdrawn due to a back problem. For these performances, he will be replaced by Thierry Fischer, who makes his own Festival debut. The program remains the same: Haydn's Symphony No. 59 in A major (“Fire”), and Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K.550, in addition to Mozart's exuberant Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K.503, performed by the gifted German pianist Martin Helmchen, who makes his Mostly Mozart Festival debut.

Rene Orth Appointed Composer-in-Residence at Opera Philadelphia

In collaboration with New York's Music-Theatre Group, Opera Philadelphia is proud to announce that Rene Orth has been selected as its sixth Composer-in-Residence. Orth, whose music is 'whimsical, spiky, sometimes show-bizy, always dramatic, reflective, rarely predictable, and often electronic' (Musical America), was chosen for the three-season position from a national field of applicants, and now has the opportunity to follow a personalized development track focused on the advancement of her skills as an operatic composer.

Tribeca New Music 2016 Festival to Conclude Season with Violinist Mary Rowell, 6/26

The Tribeca New Music 2016 Festival concludes its season with Tribeca Monster violinist Mary Rowell (a founding member of the string quartet ETHEL) celebrating some of her favorite new and recent works. Ms. Rowell leads a high-caliber group of musicians performing works by Don Byron, Annie Gosfield, Andrew Norman, Tony Scott, and Jacob TV, with a world premiere by Preston Stahly, and NYC premiere by a rising young composer, Grant Luhmann. The concert takes place at nancy manocherian's - the cell, 338 West 23rd Street (bet. 8th & 9th Ave.) in NYC, on Sunday, June 26 at 4PM. range in price from $15 to $35. LA Chamber Orchestra Announces 2016-17 Season

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), one of the nation's premier orchestras as well as a leader in presenting wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous commissions, announces its 2016-17 season, its final under the leadership of esteemed Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, who steps down at the end of the season, concluding an unprecedented and extraordinary 20-year tenure at the Orchestra's artistic helm, the longest in LACO history. The sweeping and deeply personal season commemorates Kahane's remarkable legacy, spotlights his exceptional rapport with the Orchestra and features some of the world's leading musicians.

Utah Symphony and Music Director Thierry Fischer Release New Album DAWN TO DUST Today

The recording, a hybrid SACD is out today, Friday, April 8, 2016, is the second in an ongoing series by Music Director Thierry Fischer and the Utah Symphony for Reference Recordings. It follows the release of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 'Titan,' recorded live by the Utah Symphony and Mr. Fischer, issued in September 2015. DAWN TO DUST will be available from iTunes, Amazon.com, and other music retailers.

The Royal Conservatory of Music Sets Season Finale

On May 14, Marcus Roberts & The Modern Jazz Generation close out the "Katrina -10 Years On" concert series, dedicated to the spirit of the people who suffered from one of the worst hurricanes in history. In this concert Roberts, famous for his dazzling, virtuosic playing that taps the full range of the jazz piano tradition, unveils The Modern Jazz Generation, an ensemble that features his trio mates - Jason Marsalis on drums and Rodney Jordan on bass - and a number of next generation jazz greats. The musicians are joined by special guest Wycliffe Gordon (tuba), who returns to Koerner Hall after recently appearing with Rene Marie.

Timo Andres & Gabriel Kahane to Perform at Zankel Hall, 4/7

Carnegie Hall presents a joint concert by Timo Andres and Gabriel Kahane-composers, performers, and long-time friends-on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall. The program encompasses music from the past four centuries with vocal and piano works by J.S. Bach, Charles Ives, Benjamin Britten, Jerome Kern, Thomas Ades, and Andrew Norman, along with the New York premieres of new works the composers have written for each other. A pre-concert talk will be held in Zankel Hall with Kahane, Andres, and Jeremy Geffen, Director of Artistic Planning at Carnegie Hall.
