The American Theatre Wing just celebrated its 2016 Jonathan Larson Grants recipients: Cesar Alvarez (book, music and lyrics), Nikko Benson (music and lyrics), Carson Kreitzer (book and lyrics), and Sam Salmond (book, music, and lyrics).

On Saturday night, Avon Players held its annual potluck preview, showcasing its 2016 2017 season. Each director had an opportunity to present a scene or two from his/her show, with guest actors pinch hitting for the main characters. One production, Forever Christmas, is unique; it is the creation of theatre genius John Deierlein, and simply cannot be seen at other venues. This show, in particular, is the must-see event at Avon Players next season. The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, in association with Van Dean and Sister Productions, will present the hit musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown with book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner and additional material by Andrew Lippa, directed by York's Associate Artistic Director Michael Unger with music direction by Eric Svejcar.

The true talent of the cast takes center stage in SoLuna Studio's incarnation of Andrew Lippa's hit off-Broadway musical Wild Party. Their voices impressively and beautifully fill the Hauppauge theatre with Mr. Lippa's diverse score of pop/rock and jazz songs, among others. Netting Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and Obie Awards, Director Karen Braun takes a slightly reimagined look at this stirring tale.

Broadwayworld.com NJ interviewed Stephen Fox, the Musical Director of 'James and the Giant Peach' at The Growing Stage, the Children's Theatre of New Jersey. The show runs from March 11th through April 3rd.

Charles Schulz's beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner's classic musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn't give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and 'blockhead,' himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine's Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair. In this revised version, with additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the sweet, joyful innocence of the Peanuts gang is maintained, but a fresh insouciance and playfulness is revealed. Though considered a 'good man' by his friends, Charlie Brown can't seem to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl, nor his friend Lucy, her crush, the piano-playing Schroeder. Meanwhile Snoopy and Linus daydream and the rest of the friends battle with kites, school, baseball and misunderstandings before finally coming to realize what makes them truly happy.

On opening night, March 5th, of Artes de la Rosa's production of BIG FISH: THE MUSICAL 12 CHAIRS version, the production team, cast, and crew helped former Artes de la Rosa actor, Jonathan Flippo propose to his girlfriend, Erin Hardy who is also an Artes alum. Utilizing the 13-member cast of BIG FISH as back up, Jonathan, last seen in Man of La Mancha, sang 'Come What May' from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Sundance Institute today announced the eight new projects selected for its pilot Theatre Lab in the MENA region, held in Morocco, May 2016. The Lab is part of the Institute's international cultural exchange programs for independent artists, which include a new, multi-year commitment to support artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), broadening the work of its East African Theatre Exchange over the past 15 years. For the Lab, the Institute will provide promising, fresh voices from the U.S. and MENA region with a rigorous artistic retreat and new opportunities for cross-cultural discovery, artistic reflection and creative experimentation.

As the decadence is reaching a climax, so is Burrs' jealousy which erupts and sends him into a violent rage. Gun in hand and inhibitions abandoned Burrs turns on Queenie and Black. Dare to Defy Productions will be bringing the stunning musical based on Joseph Moncure March's popular 1928 epic poem to Dayton- set for a limited 6 performance run at the Mathile Theatre, in the Schuster Center, April 1st - April 9th, 2016.

?Five-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb has announced the line-up for SUMMERWORKS, its annual series of new plays. Now in its 21st season, SUMMERWORKS will run May 27 through July 9 at The Wild Project (195 E 3rd Street) in Manhattan, and will feature productions of three new plays: EVERY ANGEL IS BRUTAL by Julia Jarcho and directed by Knud Adams; THE TOMB OF KING TOT by Eric Dufault and directed by Portia Krieger; and TUMACHO by Ethan Lipton and directed by Leigh Silverman.
