Music Before 1800: Season Continues with Juilliard415 & Jonathan Cohen, 1/14

NYC's longest-running early music series Music Before 1800 continues its 43rd season on Sunday, January 14 at 4PM at Corpus Christi Church with Juilliard415, the school's superb period-instrument ensemble (New York Times), and charismatic harpsichordist and conductor Jonathan Cohen. The program explores the Baroque fascination with the connected realms of madness and enchantment.

Talking Band to present World Premiere of FUSIFORM GYRUS

Talking Band will present the world premiere of Fusiform Gyrus - A Septet for Two Scientists and Five Horns, written and composed by OBIE Award winner Ellen Maddow, and directed by Ellie Heyman, running from February 7 - 25, 2018 in a limited engagement at HERE, located at 145 6th Avenue (Enter on Dominick, 1 block south of Spring) in New York City. Previews begin February 7 for a February 13 opening.

Flushing Town Hall Presents Korean Contemporary Improvisational Music From Black String

On Friday, January 26, Flushing Town Hall presents Black String, a Korean group that creates contemporary sounds using ancient instruments. Embracing both traditional Korean music and jazz, Black String explores composed and improvised creations. The group's amplified geomungo (Korean zither), daegeum (bamboo flutes), traditional percussion, and the unpredictable melody of jazz guitar will captivate the audience.

Playwrights Horizons Opens Online Lottery for First Preview of MILES FOR MARY

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) begins accepting entries today, Tuesday, January 2, for the LIVE for FIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to the New York stage return of MILES FOR MARY, a new play created by The Mad Ones. The play is written by Marc Bovino, Joe Curnutte, Michael Dalto, Lila Neugebauer and Stephanie Wright Thompson; in collaboration with Sarah Lunnie and the creative ensemble of Amy Staats and Stacey Yen. Directed by Lila Neugebauer, the production received critical acclaim during its smash run at The Bushwick Starr in Brooklyn during the fall of 2016. This new limited engagement at Playwrights Horizons marks the production's Off-Broadway debut.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) opens its Spring 2018 Music Series with Anton Batagov and the Attacca Quartet on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 7:30pm in the Jerome Robbins Theater. This varied evening of music features the World Premiere of Different Things from influential post-minimalist Russian composer and pianist Anton Batagov, paired with Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18, No. 6. Batagov's Different Things will be performed by the composer (at the piano) and the Attacca Quartet, one of America's premier young string ensembles, along with Kris Saebo, double bass; Linda Jones, soprano; Luthien Brackett, mezzo soprano; Andrew Fuchs, tenor; and Steven Hrycelak, bass.
