Los Angeles continues to be a hotbed of new musicals. After a dizzying number of new musicals appeared in the recent Hollywood Fringe Festival, soon the 18th annual Stages Musical Theatre Festival will be returning to Los Angeles this August. This prestigious festival features new musicals, which have been developed across the country, presented in concert readings. This year's festival features six musicals, presented in two venues over two weekends: This weekend, August 21-23 at New Musicals Inc., 5628 Vineland in North Hollywood and August 28-30 at 3D Theatricals, 1255 N. On Wednesday, June 3, A LITTLE NEW MUSIC returned to Rockwell: Table & Stage in Los Feliz for its 8th edition, showcasing the best of new musical theatre writing with an incredible cast of Broadway and local talent. Bryan Blaskie (Victorian Courting and Zombies) will return as musical director.

Broadway Gives Back has announced that the Third Annual 'Broadway Charity Songs' concert will be recorded by Broadway Records as part of their 'Live from 54 Below' series. The concert will feature new songs written by Sting, Brian Yorkey, Andrew Lippa, Henry Krieger, Pasek & Paul, and others.

Broadway Gives Back will present the Third Annual 'Broadway Charity Songs!' 'Broadway Charity Songs' pairs a group of award-winning songwriters with a group of outstanding charities and tasks each songwriter with composing an original song inspired by the mission of the charity. The result is an evening of songs gifted to the charities -- increasing awareness for these outstanding organizations.

The ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony was held at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Broadwayworld was there. This years recipient of the Masters Award was composer John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano has also won fiver Grammy's a Pulitzer Prize the Grawemeyer Award and an Academy Award for his many scores and compositions. Rupert Holmes, Composer, Playwright, lyricist, mystery novelist, arranger-conductor, screenwriter, record producer and singer-songwriter received the Foundations George M. Cohan Award which is made possible by the Friars Foundation.

Season 2 of INSPIRED is about to kick off! So far, the group has raised funds for eight animal shelters in the U.S. (and most recently the UK) and given voice to nearly 40 musical theatre writers. THE SONGWRITERS' SALON, produced by Write Act Rep, John Lant Producing Artistic Director, and conceived and Directed by Colton Pometta, is a cabaret series that will feature 3-5 musical theatre composers and lyricists on the first Thursday of each month. It's a casual and open playground for artists to meet and share new work.

Produced by Bill Coyne, the evening will benefit ZARA AINA, a charity that brings theater and education to at-risk youth In Madagascar; founded by actors Bryce Pinkham and Lucas Caleb Rooney.
