Hudson Theatre Works, North Jersey's most innovative professional theater company, announces its upcoming spring production and its slate for Playworks, its annual new play reading series.

Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller and Sara Bareilles stopped by this morning's TODAY to talk about the new Broadway musical WAITRESS. Following the interview, Mueller and the show's cast performed a mash-up of the first and last song from the show.

Boston, MA – April 7, 2016 – Boston Lyric Opera closes its 2015/16 Season with composer Franz Lehár's classic comic operetta The Merry Widow, whose light-hearted fun within the fictional Pontevedrian Embassy in Paris plays out among international diplomats as the dark clouds of World War I gather on the horizon. This new BLO production of The Merry Widowopens April 29 for a five-performance run through May 8 at the Citi Performing Arts CenterSMShubert Theatre in Boston.

Everyone is a suspect in the murder of Laura Hunt, an irresistibly attractive business woman trying to make her way in the world of advertising. A hard-boiled detective on the case becomes infatuated with her portrait after reading her memoirs, but her closest friends don't trust him. The twists and turns of this film noir classic, adapted for the stage, will have you guessing whodunit.

The Lyric Stage Company of Boston's 2015-16 season closes with an acclaimed new play (partly inspired by the theatricality of Nicholas Nickleby) that uses ingenious stagecraft, the talents of a dozen of our favorite actors, and the limitless possibilities of your imagination to create theatrical magic.

Following on from yesterday's triumphant opening night at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre, the producers of Waitress have announced that the national tour of the acclaimed new musical will begin at Cleveland's Playhouse Square on October 17, 2017.

WE'RE GONNA DIE is a sweet and weird song cycle, the perfect vehicle for Company One Theatre and the engaging Obehi Janice, backed up by a four-piece band that kicks it on the stage of Oberon. Playwright Young Jean Lee takes us through a series of life lessons by telling stories about pain, loneliness, illness, loss, and love, using humor and music to make us feel alright about the inevitable. It is definitely worth an hour of your time.

Broadway's WAITRESS began performances on Friday, March 25 with a bang, setting a house record for a single performance the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and announcing a new block of tickets on sale through January 1, 2017. WAITRESS opens today, April 24, 2016. The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Director Diane Quinn, presents the world premiere of IN THE BODY OF THE WORLD, written and performed by Eve Ensler and directed by Diane Paulus. Performances begin on Tuesday, May 10 and run through Sunday, May 29 at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge.

AMERICAN PSYCHO, the American premiere of a new musical based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis -- which celebrates the 25th anniversary of its publication this March -- began performances on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street) on Thursday, March 24, 2016. From May 7 - June 4, 2016, SpeakEasy Stage Company will proudly present the Boston Professional Premiere of DOGFIGHT, a powerful new musical about unexpected love, loss, and brotherhood, based on the 1991 film starring River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. 

Among this year's nominees for Outstanding Musical Production by a Large Theater are WAITRESS and NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE  GREAT COMET OF 1812, both at American Repertory Theatre. Tony winner Jessie Mueller and Denee Benton also each received nods for their respective performances. 

The Old Globe presents Nick Payne's Broadway hit play CONSTELLATIONS, directed by the Globe's own Richard Seer. Christian Coulson and Victoria Frings lead the two-person play, which runs now through May 8, 2016, in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Opening night is tonight, April 14 at 8:00 p.m.
