New York Choral Society Hosts Summer Sings Series

This summer marks the 50th annual Summer Sings Program. Each summer, the New York Choral Society produces a Summer Sings series that features the most popular masterworks of the choral literature.

Morrison Center for the Arts Releases 2010-2011 Schedule

The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts announces its 2010-2011 season schedule. Touring companies of THE COLOR PURPLE, GREASE, LEGALLY BLONDE, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, WICKED, and MAMMA MIA are scheduled to appear as well as local musical, ballet, and acting performances.

1000 Ballerinas Descend on Central Park to Break Guinness World Record, 8/2

HIT Entertainment is pleased to announce that Angelina BallerinaTM will be lending her support to hundreds of ballerinas in Central Park on August 2nd, in the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for 'Most Ballerinas En Pointe' at one time. Ballet dancers age 13 and up are invited to be part of this record-breaking event, called 'Break the Ballet Record', to support awareness for dance. Proceeds from the gathering will benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club performing arts program, a partner of the newly launched Angelina Ballerina Stars of Tomorrow (AB Stars) campaign that promotes the joys and benefits of dance for children around the world.

Miami City Ballet Performs At NYC's City Center

Miami City Ballet has been selected to make its debut at the 2010 Fall for Dance Festival at New York's City Center September 28th and 29th, 2010. The company will perform Twyla Tharp's 'The Golden Section.' The festival, running September 28th - October 9th, 2010, will showcase 20 dance companies and choreographers from across the United States and around the world. Miami City Ballet is one of ten dance companies making their debut in the festival. 'We are thrilled to perform, as it builds on our ongoing successful relationship with New York City Center, where the company made its debut in 2009,' said Edward Villella, founding artistic director and CEO of Miami City Ballet.

CND2 Performs at Jacob's Pillow, Last Performance Tonight

Madrid-based contemporary dance company CND2 (Compañía Nacional de Danza 2) performs at Jacob's Pillow July 28-August 1, in their final engagement under departing founder and Artistic Director Nacho Duato. Nacho Duato announced in April of 2010 that by the end of July he would step down as Artistic Director of both CND2 and the parent company CND after founding both companies and twenty years at the helm. For this very special engagement, CND2 will perform the U.S. premiere of Insected by co-Artistic Director Tony Fabre, and acclaimed dancemaker Duato's movingly spiritual works Kol Nidre and Gnawa.

American Ballet Travels to Cuba, 11/3-6

American Ballet Theatre will travel to Cuba to perform as part of the Havana International Ballet Festival, November 3-6, 2010, it was announced today by ABT's Executive Director Rachel Moore.

ABT's New York Summer Intensive Final Performances Scheduled, Begins 7/30

Final performances for American Ballet Theatre's New York Summer Intensive Program are scheduled for Friday, July 30, 2010 at 12 P.M. and 4 P.M. at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. The performances mark the conclusion of ABT's 15th annual New York Summer Intensive, a six-week training program for dancers ages 12 to 22.

2010 Fall for Dance Festival Comes To City Center, Runs 9/28-10/9

New York City Center's seventh annual Fall for Dance Festival, running September 28 - October 9, will showcase 20 national and international companies and choreographers. With ticket prices remaining at $10 for all seats, a night of dance is more affordable than a night at the movies. The festival will include world and U.S. premieres, and will feature several companies making their first U.S. appearances.

Jacob's Pillow Welcomes Jacoby & Pronk, 7/21-25

In an exclusive engagement, independent contemporary ballet duo Jacoby & Pronk will perform at Jacob's Pillow with four other international dance stars, July 21-25 in the Doris Duke Theatre. Drew Jacoby and Rubinald Pronk performed with leading contemporary ballet companies before eschewing the typical dancer's career path to become freelance artists, touring as an independent duo and appearing as guest artists with companies such as the Dutch National Ballet and Morphoses. The duo will perform an excerpt of Christopher Wheeldon's Rhapsody Fantaisie, three world premieres by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Leo Mujic, and Lauri Stallings, and a pas de deux by Hans van Manen. Jacoby and Pronk are joined in this engagement by fellow international dance stars David Hallberg of American Ballet Theatre; former member of Nederlands Dans Theatre Shirley Esseboom; dancer/choreographer Leo Mujic (Béjart Ballet Lausannet, Ballett Frankfurt, Paris Opera Ballet); and Victor Mateos Arellano of Dresden SemperOper Ballett. Short films directed by noted photographer and filmmaker Alvin Booth, starring Jacoby and Pronk, serve as interludes between works.
