Los Angeles Ballet Announces Free Performance in Grand Park, 7/6

The Music Center announces that it will partner with Los Angeles Ballet to present that company's productions of Agon and Rubies on Saturday evening July 6, free to the public. Both have music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by George Balanchine.

Youth America Grand Prix Presents CREATING THE DANCE WITH MARCELO GOMES Tonight

Youth America Grand Prix presents 'Creating the Dance with Marcelo Gomes' tonight, February 4 at 6:30pm. The evening will begin with a panel discussion, followed by a rare and fascinating peak into the collaborative process essential to create a dance that is set to music, and conclude with an informal reception, all at New York City Center Studios, Studio 4 (130 West 56th Street, NYC).

Beck Center Ballerinas Rated Top 12 in National Ballet Competition

A group of eight talented dancers from Beck Center for the Art's Dance Education program traveled to Chicago January 18 through 20, 2013 to participate in the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), the world's largest student ballet competition, and proudly came home with top honors.

The Chieftans and Houston Symphony to Bring Irish Spirit to the Jones Hall Stage, 2/15

A one-night stop on their 50th anniversary tour, The Chieftains will join the Houston Symphony in an unforgettable evening of Irish folk music on Friday, February 15. Known for bringing in local talent while on tour, The Chieftains will be joined on stage throughout the performance by the Clear Creek High School Chamber Singers, bagpipe performers from the Houston Highlanders and NASA astronaut and flutist, Cady Coleman.

American Repertory Ballet Gala to Honor Princeton Ballet School's Maria Youskevitch, 4/20

Maria Youskevitch, longtime faculty member at Princeton Ballet School, is one of this year's American Repertory Ballet Gala Honorees, and is the recipient of this year's Audree Estey Award for Excellence in Dance Education. Daughter of one of the leading dancers of the 20th century, Igor Youskevitch, Ms. Youskevitch brings a strong background in and deep knowledge of ballet to her students. She teaches for a variety of levels and, every year, re-stages a full-length classical ballet on Princeton Ballet School students for the School's Spring Production. She has also served as Rehearsal Director for American Repertory Ballet, the professional company associated with Princeton Ballet School, on several occasions.

Joffrey Academy of Dance to Present WINNING WORKS: CHOREOGRAPHERS OF COLOR AWARD, 3/10

The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, presents the Third Annual Winning Works: Choreographers of Color Award, featuring three World Premieres by rising-star choreographers Ma Cong, William McClellan and Jeremy McQueen. New York-based fashion designer LaQuan Smith will conceptualize and design a costume for McQueen's piece. The three World Premieres, along with Academy Co-Artistic Director Alexei Kremnev's work titled Carnival of Animals, are presented in Winning Works: Choreographers of Color Award 2013 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, in one performance only, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 4 pm.

Mikhail Baryshnikov to Take Center Stage at Northwestern Graduation, 6/21

Mikhail Baryshnikov, founder and artistic director of the Baryshnikov Arts Center, critically acclaimed film, television and theater actor and one of the world's greatest ballet dancers, will receive an honorary degree and deliver the main address at Northwestern University's 155th commencement.

Dance from the Heart returns to New York City Tonight - Monday, January 28 and tomorrow Tuesday, January 29, 2013 with shows at 6:30pm & 8:30pm each night at Cedar Lake Theater, 547 W. 26th Street in Manhattan's West Chelsea Historic District. The exciting benefit will feature performances by more than a dozen of the most diverse dancers, dance companies and choreographers working today. Dance from the Heart will present a different program of performances for each night (see schedule below), a poignant anti-bullying number danced by teenagers and the world premiere of a piece choreographed by American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Marcelo Gomes.

Pacific Northwest Ballet to Bring Balanchine and ROMEO ET JULIETTE to New York City Center, 2/13-16

New York City Center will present Pacific Northwest Ballet in its first full-company performance in NYC since 1996, February 13-16, 2013. PNB, celebrating its 40th Anniversary season, will present two programs featuring a mixed repertoire of Balanchine ballets and Jean-Christophe Maillot's full-length Roméo et Juliette. The troupe will be accompanied by the PNB Orchestra, led by Music Director and Principal Conductor Emil de Cou.

A delightful midwinter night's dream, ALMOST, MAINE by John Cariani will play TheaterWorks in downtown Hartford. The sweet and poignant comedy runs tonight, January 25 - March 3, 2013, directed by Amy Saltz.

STAGE TUBE: Antony Tudor's LILAC GARDEN Premiere, January 26, 1936

Antony Tudor's Jardin aux Lilas (also known by its American title Lilac Garden) was first presented by Ballet Rambert on January 26, 1936 at the Mercury Theatre in London. Set in the Edwardian era to music by Ernest Chausson the ballet depicts the story of a young woman who is engaged to a man she does not love, pitted against her passion for the man she cannot marry.

Julie Taymor Returns to Directing with A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at Theatre for a New Audience

Multiple Tony Award-winner JULIE TAYMOR will direct and ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL will compose original music for William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the inaugural production in Theatre for a New Audience's first home in the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, 262 Ashland Place between Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Streets. Previews begin October 19, 2013 for an opening November 2.

BAD BOYS OF DANCE Comes to Three Stages Tonight

Founded by dance superstar Rasta Thomas (Dance Theater of Harlem, Kirov Ballet), the Bad Boys of Dance are a fresh, new dance company that has performed in Carnegie Hall with Sir Elton John and have toured 150 cities performing for 500,000 fans. Talented, young, versatile, and male-mostly-the Bad Boys will bring to Three Stages a night of extraordinary athleticism and endearing individuality.

Houston Ballet to Present LA BAYADERE, 2/21-3/3

From February 21-March 3, 2013, Houston Ballet presents Stanton Welch's La Bayadère ('The Temple Dancer'), a historic classic staged by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch and set in royal India of the past.

STAGE TUBE: RAYMONDA PREMIERE - January 19, 1898

On this date in 1898 Raymonda premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. The production had music by Alexander Glazunov, choreography by Marius Petipa and an all star cast (for its day) that included Pierina Legnani, Sergey Legat, Olga Peobrajenska and Pavel Gerdt.
