Halsted St.

Photo Flash: Northlight Theatre Presents AWAKE AND SING

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, continues its 35th Season with Awake and Sing!, Clifford Odets' Tony Award-winning play, directed by Amy Morton. The production runs January 21- February 28, 2010, at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie.

The Ruckus Adds Two World Premieres and Five Company Members

The Ruckus Theater hops into the teenage decade of the second millennium by announcing two additions to its 2009/2010 season: the world premiere of The Gay American by Kristian O'Hare, directed by Artistic Director Allison Shoemaker (May 2010), and a workshop of the world-premiere musical Escape from the Vienna Boys Choir, book Aaron Dean, music and lyrics by Jason Rico (June 2010); both are produced at The Side Project Theatre (1439 W Jarvis).

La Jolla Playhouse Announces 2010/11 Season

La Jolla Playhouse announced today five of six productions in its 2010/11 subscription season, including the world premiere of Annie Weisman's Surf Report, running June/July in the Mandell Weiss Forum; William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and featuring an on-stage orchestra playing the music of Mendelssohn, running July/Aug in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; the world-premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, starring Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, running Sept/Oct in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; a new adaptation of Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, adapted by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, directed by Robert Woodruff, running late Sept/Oct in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, running Nov/Dec in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The final production of the 2010/11 season - a musical - will be announced shortly.

Marin Theatre Company Presents SUNLIGHT, 1/21-4/14, 2010

Marin Theatre Company will produce the world premiere of its 2009 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize winner, Sunlight by Sharr White, January 21 through February 14, 2010. In addition to the Sky Cooper Prize, Sunlight has garnered substantial national recognition. Following MTC's premiere, this searing political thriller will be produced at three other theaters as part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere-Arts West in Seattle, Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis, and New Jersey Rep.

The Huntington Theatre Company continues its 28th season - a season of American stories - with Stick Fly, Huntington Playwriting Fellow Lydia R Diamond's smart, moving, and funny portrait of a complex African-American family.

Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen Talk Success of [title of show]

In 2004, Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen created an autobiographical musical by the name of [title of show] as an entry for the New York Musical Theater Festival. The production had a ran off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2006, followed by a brief stint on Broadway in 2008. The show is a love letter to musical theatre, and tells the story of two friends who decide to write an original work for a musical theatre competition despite a pressing deadline.
