Paper Mill Playhouse is proud to announce John Doyle's production of The Color Purple will open the 2018-2019 season, replacing the previously announced Unmasked. The Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple that exhilarated Broadway will thrill audiences at Paper Mill Playhouse from September 26 to October 21.

Alice Walker's poignantly sad, yet ultimately empowering classic novel, 'The Color Purple,' has found expression on the page, on film and twice now on the musical stage. The revival (book by Marsha Norman; songs by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray), honed to its finest points, tears at your heart as the story of Southern black girl Celie unfolds over decades of poverty, abuse and a loveless existence, only to see her rise triumphantly as she finally comes into her own. Directed by John Doyle (who was also responsible for the sepia-toned, minimalist set design), the show won the 2016 Tony for Best Revival of a Musical and is now on tour, with a wonderous stop at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre, now through May 27.

Broadway In Chicago and the producers of the Tony Award-winning revival of THE COLOR PURPLE, the truly remarkable musical adapted of Alice Walker's best-selling novel, are delighted to announce that individual tickets for THE COLOR PURPLE will go on sale Friday, May 11. Broadway In Chicago presents THE COLOR PURPLE, directed by Tony winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd and The Color Purple), at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (50 E. Congress Pkwy.) for a limited two-week engagement July 17 - 29, 2018.

Mixed Magic Theatre (MMT)  is  thrilled  to present  Pell  Award  Winner   Ricardo  Pitts-Wiley's  adaptation of 'Sweat' and 'The Gilded Six Bits', two  short stories by   Zora Neale Hurston, the celebrated  author  of 'Their  Eyes  Were   Watching  God '. Raised in Eatonville, Florida the first all black town to incorporate in the United States, Hurston's first love was  African  American  folklore. She  was an American  folklorist, anthropologist ,novelist,   ethnographer, and  short story writer . 

Thirty-four years after Alice Walker's The Color Purple won The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the national tour of the Tony Award®-winning Broadway revival of the same name delivers a timely story of self-discovery and forgiveness.

The national tour of THE COLOR PURPLE rolls into DPAC next month led by five members of the original Broadway cast, including Carla R. Stewart, who steps into Shug Avery's shoes. Stewart says she is blessed to be part of such a timely and timeless story.

A new day is on the horizon at Theatre Horizon, a professional theatre company located 20 miles outside of Center City Philadelphia in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 2018-2019 season will feature 11 productions along with a special 10th anniversary return engagement of Storm Large in Crazy Enough, a show that had its world premiere at The Armory in 2009 and became one of the company's biggest hits.

In honor of Black History Month, the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and Broadway in New Orleans have partnered together to give 30 McMain High School students an exclusive opportunity to hear a reading of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel THE COLOR PURPLE from cast members of the Tony Award-winning Broadway show. Students will have the opportunity to ask cast members questions about the show, storyline and their professional backgrounds. Presented by the New Orleans Theatre Association, THE COLOR PURPLE is part of the East Jefferson General Hospital Broadway in New Orleans 2017 - 2018 season and will play at the Saenger Theatre Feb. 20-25.

Actor's Express has been awarded a grant of $20,000 from Turner to support its production of The Color Purple. Managing Director Alex Scollon comments, "Year after year Turner has shown its commitment to Atlanta's arts and culture scene and telling the stories or our time through its Turner Voices program. Actor's Express is honored to be one of the recipients again this year."

According to amNY, Whoopi Goldberg has her sights set on a certain Broadway role. 'It would be nice to get onstage again,' she recently said at fashion week show. 'I could see maybe taking over as Dolly at some point, something like that. It would have to be something far from me - something I could hide behind.'

The Fabulous Fox Theatre is delighted to announce that the first U.S. National tour of the hit musical THE COLOR PURPLE, will play the Fabulous Fox Theatre from Tuesday, March 20 through Sunday, April 1.

'The Color Purple' was riveting due to its top talent, high energy and high production quality in every aspect of the performance.The vocals throughout the performance are rich with full harmonies, belting solos. The Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival The Color Purple comes to the Peace Center March 13-18. The Upstate can become more familiar with the story through a book lending program where the public may borrow the 1982 Alice Walker novel the show is based on for free.
