NY Philharmonic Pays Tribute to Dimitri Mitropoulos Throughout the Month of November

The New York Philharmonic will offer a tribute to Dimitri Mitropoulos, its former Music Director and one of the towering musical figures of the 20th century - with concerts, lectures, film screenings, an archival exhibit, and a special radio program - throughout the month of November 2010, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his death. The tribute is sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The nominees for the PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS 2011 were announced this morning by Malin Akerman ('27 Dresses,' 'Watchmen'), Michael Chiklis, ('No Ordinary Family'), Zachary Levi ('Chuck'), AnnaLynne McCord ('90210'), Jeff Probst ('Survivor') and Audrina Patridge ('The Hills'), along with host Queen Latifah and Executive Producer Mark Burnett at The London West Hollywood Hotel. Prior to the announcement, over 35 million votes were cast by fans across the country. Fans were invited to pick new categories and determine the nominees for the annual awards show that celebrates fan favorites in movies, music and television.

In his second consecutive week with the New York Philharmonic this season, Sir Colin Davis will lead the Orchestra in two works by Elgar - the Introduction and Allegro, and the Violin Concerto, with Nikolaj Znaider as soloist - and Mozart's Symphony No. 36, Linz, Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 10, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 11, at 8:00 p.m.

Second Stage Theatre will present the New York premiere of Rajiv Joseph's (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) Gruesome Playground Injuries featuring Pablo Schreiber and Jennifer Carpenter in 2011, the New York Times reveals today. Scott Ellis will direct. Preview will begin on January 5, 2011, with an opening night scheduled for January 31, 2011.

In December 2010, The New York Philharmonic This Week - the two-hour, national, weekly radio program of concerts by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by actor Alec Baldwin - begins with conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos leading the Orchestra in Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila; Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, with Leonidas Kavakos as soloist; Debussy's Nocturnes, with the Women of the New York Choral Artists; and Stravinsky's 1919 Suite from The Firebird.

Her childhood dream of space travel is made possible not by NASA, but the Russian Federal Space Agency. The cost of Ansari's ten-day journey into space and onto the international space station is twenty million dollars, including a rough landing in the steppes of Kazakhstan.
