New Theatre Company The Phoenix to Present BLUE/ORANGE, 11/1-23

The Phoenix, the new theatre company founded by long-time PICT artistic director and founder Andrew Paul and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre founder and former director of theatre initiatives at the August Wilson Center, Mark Clayton Southers, will debut with a four week run of Joe Penhall's provocative, caustically funny, Olivier Award-winning play Blue/Orange. The production will star acclaimed actors David Whalen, Sam Tsoutsouvas, and newcomer Rico Parker, with direction by Andrew Paul and scenic design by Mark Clayton Southers. Blue/Orange, sponsored by founding Phoenix Board Member and noted arts philanthropist Richard E. Rauh, plays November 1-23, 2013 at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre, 937 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.

Geva Theatre's Leadership Recognized in Area Awards, Nov 2013

It is a special occasion when a leader of any organization is recognized for their achievements, but when both of the Co-CEO's are recognized in the same year, it is cause for celebration. The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester recently announced the recipients of their Annual Arts Awards. Geva's Artistic Director Mark Cuddy will be receiving the 2013 Performing Artist Award, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Sir Alan Ayckbourn certainly knows how to bring rich and complex characters to life and then set them spinning to hilarious ends and his current production of "Sugar Daddies", making it's American Premiere at ACT, is no exception. Fans of new works will have plenty to sink their teeth into with REPRESENT! Multicultural Playwrights Festival, The Construction Zone, 14/48, and the American Premiere of Re:Union a shocking tale of war, protest, and self-immolation, in partnership with Vancouver's Horseshoes and Hand Grenades Theatre and Seattle's New Century Theatre Company. ACT strives to bring lovers of bold and daring new work to the theatre as well as appeal to people's holiday spirit with the beautiful and family friendly adaption of A Christmas Carol.

Long-time PICT artistic director and founder, Andrew Paul and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre founder and former director of theatre initiatives at the August Wilson Center, Mark Clayton Southers have announced Pittsburgh's newest professional theatre company, The Phoenix. The mission of The Phoenix is to explore the issues facing our diverse and rapidly changing world through the language of theatre. The name is purposeful. The phoenix was a mythological creature that crossed borders finding a home in many cultures from ancient Greece and Egypt to Turkey, Persia, Russia, Tibet, China and Japan. It was and is a symbol of renewal, new life emerging from the ashes of the old in a never-ending cycle of death and rebirth.

Opening night is set for Thursday, September 26 at 7:30pm. Performances will continue through October 26, 2013.

Ensemble Theatre Kicks Off 2014 Season with PROOF

Ensemble Theatre's 2014 season was launched on Aug 19 at the theatre with over 200 actors, directors, playwrights and group bookers in attendance. First up for 2014 is PROOF by David Auburn, a captivating character study about maths and the fine line between madness and genius directed by Sandra Bates with Adriano Cappelletta, Catherine McGraffin, Matilda Ridgway and Michael Ross.
