STAGE TUBE: Alice Ripley Records DAILY PRACTICE
by Nicole Rosky
- Feb 14, 2011
Tony Award winner Alice Ripley is prepping a new solo recording for Sh-K-Boom Records, the same label that released her 2000 debut album Everything's Fine and the acclaimed original cast recording of Next to Normal. Daily Practice: Volume 1 will feature acoustic covers of songs from artists like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Carole King, Alanis Morissette, Carly Simon and U2. 'It's a collection of songs that I play every day,' Ripley told Broadway.com in an exclusive chat about the new CD. 'I pick up my guitar every day, especially at times where I don't know where I am or who I am. My guitar reminds me... Reminds me of why I wanted to sing and who I am and what I have to say.'
Fonda Entrances in 33 Variations @ Ahmanson
by Don Grigware
- Feb 13, 2011
Moises Kaufman has created a hypnotic dramedy with music called 33 Variations, that spans two centuries. Parallel: in 1822, Composer Ludwig Van Beethoven's (Zach Grenier) hearing was slowly deteriorating and in 2011, musicologist Dr. Katherine Brandt (Jane Fonda) is physically deteriorating from the devastating effects of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's Disease: both struggle against time for the sake of art. Jutting back and forth in time, Kaufman's play exudes astounding compassion for the human condition.

by Michael L. Quintos
- Feb 11, 2011
It's been just a little more than a year since a touring production of SPRING AWAKENING has graced a theater filled with screaming fans here in Southern California. While the touring cast list has certainly changed, many of the same brilliant elements that made this 2007 Tony winner for Best Musical such a rabid, cult hit--especially among younger theatergoers--remain firmly entrenched into this groundbreaking show. Stealthily leaner yet swifter than its previous incarnations, this 2nd National Tour of SPRING AWAKENING, produced by NETworks Presentations, LLC, continues its brief, week-long stop at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood through February 13.
