UnsungMusicalsCo. (UMC) will present a developmental reading of the hit 1945 musical comedy Are You With It? on December 12 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Bruno Walter Auditorium. Based on the novel Slightly Perfect by George Malcolm-Smith, the musical has a book by Emmy Award winners George Balzer & Sam Perrin ('The Jack Benny Program'), music by Academy Award nominee Harry Revel (Paris in Spring) and lyrics by Arnold B. Horwitt (Make Mine Manhattan, Plain and Fancy). UMC artistic director Ben West (Caesar's Wife, The Fig Leaves Are Falling, At Home Abroad) directs the reading.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the University of Chicago and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance will present On Grace, a work-in-progress staged performance conceived and created by renowned actress/playwright Anna Deavere Smith, in collaboration with cellist Joshua Roman. The performance will be directed by Leonard Foglia. The event is the culmination of Smith's 2014 Presidential Arts Fellowship at UChicago and the first formal collaborative arts partnership between UChicago and Harris Theater.

The Cowardly Scarecrow Theatre Company, INC has announced the craziest performance in Musical of the Living Dead history - Two casts in the same performance - Musical of the Living Dead: Double Tap. For the closing performance on Saturday, Nov. 9 every single cast member (a total of 22 actors) will perform, adding a unique element to the performance: 'tapping' each other in and out in a tag team fashion throughout the show to create the ULTIMATE Musical of the Living Dead experience. To add to the madness, more than one actor might perform the same song or scene...simultaneously. The audience could see two Frans, one Steve, Judy give birth to herself - or even cameos by the show's creators, Marc Lewallen and Brand Younts. Anything could happen in this not-to-be-missed performance.

Musical Theatre West at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, CA opened its 61st season with Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, a musical comedy from the creative team of the 12-time Tony Award winning smash hit The Producers. The production, with music and lyrics by Brooks and a book by Thomas Meehan, marks the regional theater premiere of this hilariously tuneful show based on the 1974 smash hit film Young Frankenstein which was a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelleyclassic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. The Phoenix, the New Theatre Company founded by long-time PICT artistic director and founder Andrew Paul and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre founder and former director of theatre initiatives at the August Wilson Center, Mark Clayton Southers, will debut with a four week run of Joe Penhall's provocative, caustically funny, Olivier Award-winning play Blue/Orange. The production will star acclaimed actors David Whalen, Sam Tsoutsouvas, and newcomer Rico Parker, with direction by Andrew Paul and scenic design by Mark Clayton Southers. Blue/Orange, sponsored by founding Phoenix Board Member and noted arts philanthropist Richard E. The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) in Englewood, New Jersey will once again partner with Project Cicero NNJ to host a book drive that will benefit local schoolteachers from under-resourced schools in Northern New Jersey. This past March, in its inaugural year, Project Cicero NNJ collected approximately 35,000 books from individuals and families from 21 local schools to help supplement or create classroom libraries for teachers of the Englewood Public School District and Teach for America- Greater Newark. Approximately 200 teachers from those districts attended the book drive at The Elisabeth Morrow School held on March 9, 2013 and were able to select books to take back to their classrooms, thanks to the generous donation of boxes from Staples and Lowenstein Sandler LLP and a truck supplied by North Jersey Media Group.
