London Symphony Orchestra to Premiere Peter Maxwell Davies' Last Major Work

The London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle perform the world premiere of The Hogboon, a children's opera by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, on 26 June at The Barbican Centre in London. It is the second in a series of LSO commissioned mixed-ability operas, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, and featuring musicians from the local community and the Guildhall School, performing with the LSO.

American Composers Forum Announces Recipients of Champion of New Music Award

The American Composers Forum (ACF) Board of Directors has voted to present its 2016 “Champion of New Music” award to four outstanding recipients: Pianist and Contemporary Chamber Ensemble founding member Gilbert Kalish; Opera Parallèle's artistic director, conductor, and founder Nicole Paiement; new music writer, blogger and New Yorker magazine columnist Alex Ross; and conductor, pianist, composer and pedagogue Robert Spano at public ceremonies this year. The “Champion of New Music” award was established by ACF in 2005 as a national mark of recognition to honor individuals or ensembles that have made a significant contribution to the work and livelihoods of contemporary composers. ACF President and CEO John Nuechterlein will present the awards at three events in the coming months:

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to Perform Two Mozart Concerts, Today

MILWAUKEE, WIS. 03/08/2016– The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces two concerts performed on back to back weekends at the Pabst Theater highlighting the works of Mozart. Mozart + More features guest conductor Ben Gernon and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan on March 31, April 1, and 2. Mozart's “Jupiter” features guest conductor Courtney Lewis on April 8, 9 and 10.

Composer Scott Wheeler Releases Album, Premieres Opera

NEW YORK, NY (For Release 3.7.16) — Hailed for his vocal and operatic music, award-winning composer/conductor/teacher Scott Wheeler showcases his omnivorous compositional style during the 2016-17 season. From the album release of Portrait (Bridge Records) and the world premiere of his latest opera Naga by the Boston Lyric Opera to nationwide performances of his Ben Gunn song cycle and debut as a composer for dance, Wheeler continues to lead the new-music vanguard. A continual point of reference for contemporary music, Wheeler serves in numerous leadership roles including: 2016-17 Affiliate of NYUâ€s Center for the Ballet and Arts, 2016-17 Composer-in-Residence at the Brooklyn Art Song Society, and Professor at Bostonâ€s Emerson College.

BMOP Kicks Off the New Year with Six Reimagined Brandenburg Concertos Tonight

Boston, MA — Having just accepted the 2016 Musical America Ensemble of the Year award, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) continues its 20th anniversary season with a one-night-only concert celebrating Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. BMOP will perform the “New Brandenburgs,” six works commissioned as companion pieces to Bach's six original Brandenburg Concertos as a result of a four-year project by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. The program includes the Boston premieres of Brandenburg Gate (inspired by Brandenburg No. 2) by Paul Moravec, Muse (inspired by Brandenburg No. 3) by Christopher Theofanidis, Little Moonhead (inspired by Brandenburg No. 4) by Melinda Wagner, Sea Orpheus (inspired by Brandenburg No. 5) by Peter Maxwell Davies, and Concerto with Echoes (inspired by Brandenburg No. 6) by Aaron Jay Kernis, as well as a performance of A Brandenburg Autumn (inspired by Brandenburg No. 1) by Stephen Hartke.

Now in its record breaking 30th year, Cameron Mackintosh just announced exciting cast changes for"LES MISERABLES" at the Queen's Theatre in 2016. Joining the cast from Monday 15 February 2016 are Patrice Tipoki as 'Fantine'; Craig Mather as 'Marius' andDanielle Hope as 'Eponine.' Peter Lockyer will continue to star as 'Jean Valjean', Jeremy Secomb as 'Javert',Phil Daniels as 'Thenardier', Katy Secombe as 'Madame Thenardier'; Zoe Doano as 'Cosette' and Bradley Jaden as 'Enjolras'.

Everyman & Playhouse Set Spring 2016 Season

The Everyman & Playhouse's 2016 spring season will feature love, loyalty, betrayal, oppression, transcendence, motherhood, brotherhood, tragedy and comedy. Gemma Bodinetz will direct a new adaptation of Madame Bovary with Peepolykus at the Everyman, while at the Playhouse there will be a major revival of Frank McGuinness's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme. There are also partnerships with National Theatre of Scotland and Told By An Idiot on I Am Thomas, and DaDaFest and Turf Love for Unsung, a new production about Liverpool radical Edward Rushton.
