BIO

T'KEYAH CRYSTAL KEYMÁH (pronounced Ta-Kee-ah Kristle Kee-Mah) is an accomplished entertainer, writer, director, producer and educator who has performed across the US and on four continents. Best known for her starring roles on eight television shows including the internationally popular In Living Color, Cosby, and That’s So Raven, and her new media showcase, The Cool Crystal Show. She has performed with three singing groups, four dance companies, in twenty-five films and more than fifty live theatrical productions including School Girls, or, The African Means Girls Play, Crowns, The Piano Lesson, Miss Evers Boys, A Raisin in the Sun, The Old Settler, Five Heartbeats Live!, Love Letters, and her self-penned shows T’Keyah Live! …Mostly: A True Variety Show, Some of My Best Friends, Sellout!?!, and Don’t Get Me Started! Behind the camera, she writes, directs and produces for stage and television. She tours the country and beyond presenting her “Tools of the Trade” actor preparation workshops and is a certified actor and teacher of the Michael Chekhov actor training method. She has active memberships with many charitable and civic organizations including the NAACP, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and a past co-chair of Delta’s National Arts & Letters Commission. A long time vegetarian and avid gardener, she is an activist for health and education equality, the environment and civil rights, and has established scholarships at Meharry Medical College and Florida A & M University (FAMU). Keymáh is the author of the book version of her acclaimed solo show, Some of My Best Friends, the popular coffee table book, Natural Woman / Natural Hair, her recent self-help book, Cycle of Love: Twenty-eight Days of Organization, Rejuvenation, Meditation and Inspired Self Care, and is a contributing writer to four other books. She is included among The HistoryMakers®, The Chicago African American History Makers®, and Who’s Who Among Black Americans, and has collected all of FAMU’s highest honors including a Doctorate of Humane Letters. Her video oral history interview is a permanent part of The HistoryMakersTM Collection at the United States Library of Congress.
