(01/29/2018) - On Saturday, January 20, the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum was the elegant setting for Jim Caruso's Cast Party! Host Caruso and musical director Billy Stritch created a concert version of their usually-impromptu open mic with a dazzling cast of (mostly) local performers. The sold-out house was entertained by Lucie Arnaz, Alix Korey, Karina Nuvo, David Zippel, Iris Williams, Jane Monheit, Julie Garnye, and Travis Cloer. The Cast Party Symphony Orchestra was helmed by Stritch at piano, as well as bassist Jeff Stover and Rick Montalbano on drums.
(01/24/2018) - Chilling, sinister, thought-provoking and wickedly funny. Antaeus Theatre Companypresents a fully partner-cast production of Harold Pinter's seldom seen dark comedy, The Hothouse. Directed by Nike Doukas, The Hothouse opens on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 (one opening for each cast), running through March 11 at the Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center in Glendale. Low-priced previews begin on Jan. 18.
(01/13/2018) - Nunsense, with book music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, has become quite a cottage industry since its debut off-Broadway in 1985. The original production ran for 3,672 performances, making it the second-longest-running off-Broadway show in history (behind Fantasticks). Since that successful opening, the playwright has concocted six sequels and three spinoffs. A couple of years ago, Desert Theatreworks presented Nunsense: The Mega Musical, one of the spinoffs, which was basically the original five-nun musical expanded to a cast of 17, with a couple of new songs added. They are currently presenting Nunsensations, the fifth of the six sequels.
