PAPER PLANET Plays the New Vic, Now thru 6/7

By:

Venture into a wild woodland unlike any other! Presented by The New Victory Theater, Polyglot Theatre's Paper Planet takes root at The Duke on 42nd Street from today, May 30-June 7. In this interactive installation for everyone ages 2 and up, kids and their adults team up to create and explore a jungle of cardboard trees adorned with paper flora and fauna.

A beautiful, gentle environment filled with tall, strange trees, paper leaves, boulders, birds and other creatures, Paper Planet, from Melbourne's Polyglot Theatre, invites families to fold, scrunch and dream up rustling paper creations to populate this constantly-changing world. A forest full of original art, Paper Planet's evolving play space encourages imaginative interaction and improvisation.

For over 30 years, Polyglot Theatre has been recognized as one of Australia's leading theater companies for kids, whose works encourage free artistic expression and an imaginative interpretation of the world. Inspired by the artwork and ideas of children, they specialize in experiential, interactive installation work and participatory workshop programs. In 2014, Polyglot performed over 108 performances of six touring works and four new works, facilitated three community engagement projects both in Australia and internationally, undertook five creative development processes and led over 107 workshops, all in all reaching more than 68,000 people in six different countries.

With concept and direction by Sue Giles (Polyglot Artistic Director, Executive Committee Member of ASSITEJ International and a director of over 30 plays and events), sound design by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey (Melbourne International Arts Festival Award) and installation design by Mischa Long, Paper Planet was originally commissioned by Federation Square in Melbourne, bringing creativity and theatrical play into the public space. The performing artists in Paper Planet are Nick Barlow, Tamekia Jackson, Bree-Anna Obst and Mischa Long. Glen Walton is the live sound artist and Emma Dodd is the associate producer.
