NY Neo-Futurists to Return with MUTE, 10/11-26

By:

Do you remember a time when you were expected to be seen and not heard? The New York Neo-Futurists have created a show that illuminates these times, using every theatrical tool at their disposal save one: speech.

Drawing on images and impressions from their childhood memories, the creators of Mute will take you on a trip into their early years, reflecting on forces that silenced them, and bringing you back to share these immersive moments on stage. Using shadow puppetry, clown work, video, live music, soundscapes, and three-dimensional "GIFs," the Neo-Futurists ask what remains of the artist when the physical voice is removed.

Mute is the third production in the New York Neo-Futurists' developmental Lab Series, exploring different themes and theatrical forms in the context of 10-15 minute plays. As with previous NYNF Lab shows, On the Future and Soft Hydraulics, the five plays in Mute will serve as self-contained short pieces or works-in-progress with the potential for longer-form lives in the future.

Written, performed and designed by: Nicole Hill, Christopher Loar, Daniel McCoy, Mike Puckett and Yolanda K. Wilkinson. Director: Joey Rizzolo. Production Manager: Bettina Warshaw. Stage Manager: Sarah Livant. Technical Director and Set Designer: Daniel Mirsky. Sound Designer: Christopher Loar.

Performances are October 11, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 27 at 7:30pm. All performances are at the Triskelion Arts Zoo Theater (118 North 11th Street 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, NY). Tickets are $18 for general admission, and $15 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online in advance here, or on our website: www.nynf.org.

Members of the 2013 New York Neo-Futurists ensemble are Cecil Baldwin, Meg Bashwiner, Christopher Borg, Roberta Colindrez, Jeffrey Cranor, Cara Francis, Ricardo Gamboa, Nicole Hill, Kate Jones, Christopher Loar, Dylan Marron, Dan McCoy, Rob Neill, Flor De Liz Perez, Mike Puckett, Emma Reaves, Joey Rizzolo and Yolanda Wilkinson.

THE NEW YORK NEO-FUTURISTS** are an ensemble of dynamic writer/performer/directors who present the critically acclaimed, energetic show of original short plays, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind--a non-illusory collage of the comic and tragic, the political and personal, the visceral and experimental, while embracing chance, change, and chaos. Developing out of the format that has been a success in Chicago since 1988, the New York Neo-Futurists have roots in NYC from the mid 90's. Since opening TML in New York, they have created over 3000 plays and continue to present new and vital work every weekend in the East Village. For more info: www.nynf.org.
