York Theatre Company to Host Marymount Manhattan College's Staged Reading of MARTY

By:

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, presents the Marymount Manhattan College staged reading of the musical Marty with book by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood,Curtains), and music & lyrics by Charles Strouse (Annie, Bye, Bye Birdie) and Lee Adams (Applause, Golden Boy) at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The York Theatre Company has a longstanding partnership with Marymount Manhattan College.

Directed by Barbara Siman and with music direction by Brett Kristofferson, Marty will play two performances only: Friday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a talkback with the creative team following Saturday's performance.

Marty, a musical based on the Academy Award-winning film written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Delbert Mann, is about the complications that ensue when a lonely butcher from the Bronx meets and attempts to court an equally lonely school teacher from Brooklyn. Marty was first presented in 2002 at the Huntington Theatre in Boston starring John C. Reilly as Marty, in a production directed by Mark Brokaw with choreography by Rob Ashford and music direction by Eric Stern. The Marymount Manhattan College staged reading of Marty is sponsored by the Frederick Loewe Foundation and features a cast of 24 students.

Tickets for Marty are General Admission with a suggested minimum donation of $10, $5 for York Theatre Company 54th Street Members, and free to Marymount Manhattan College students and York Theatre Company Platinum Members.
