The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) and The Savvy Actor (founded by Jodie Bentley and Kevin Urban) are announcing a new partnership further strengthening the educational offerings at the York. A master class, "The Savvy Singer," will be presented at the York on Wednesday, October 21st at 7 PM. Industry panelists for the class will include Nell Benjamin (composer/lyricist, Legally Blonde), Pamela Hunt (Drama Desk-nominated director, The Musical of Musicals: The Musical!), Chris Nicholas (Agent, Kerin-Goldberg Associates) and James Morgan (Producing Artistic Director, York Theatre Company).

The mission of The Savvy Actor is to empower actors to think like small business owners by creating and implementing an effective business plan, branding their unique product, and developing marketing strategies that get them noticed and in the door. Actors can join this class for $150 to perform their audition material for the panel and receive feedback on their brand and audition technique. Actors may also audit the class for $30 and observe the live "auditions," hear industry feedback, and get on the waiting list to perform as part of the next class. Reservations are now being accepted at 212-479-7732 and more information can be found at www.thesavvyactor.com or www.yorktheatre.org.

Other educational offerings at the York include 4@15: Four New 15-Minute Musicals (an evening of new musical theatre pieces written by industry professionals and performed by college students), Penn State at York, Marymount Manhattan at York and the York's enriching theatrical internship program for high school, college and graduate students.

Jodie and Kevin have almost 20 years of combined experience in the acting business; Kevin has a degree in PR/Marketing Communications and prior to The Savvy Actor, Jodie built and ran her own NYC based Marketing and Sales company. The Savvy Actor leads seminars and workshops for universities and professional acting schools including New York University, Baldwin Wallace, UC Irvine, The York Theatre, The Network, The PIT, and Weist-Barron.

The York Theatre Company was nominated for five 2009 Drama Desk Awards, four Lucille Lortel Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards and two Drama League Awards for its productions of Enter Laughing, The Musical and My Vaudeville Man! last season. York Theatre Company is one of the only companies in the city committed to developing and producing new Musical Theatre Works and rediscovering musical gems from the past. Winner of a special Drama Desk Award for developing and producing new musical theatre, York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike for almost four decades. Under the guidance of Artistic Director James Morgan since 1997, the York has focused exclusively on new musicals in its Mainstage Series-most of them world, American or New York premieres-by some of the field's most esteemed creators and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers.
