'Wig Out!' Extends Its Run at The Vineyard Theatre Through November 2nd

By:

The Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) has announced a two-week extension of its newest hit play WIG OUT! by Tarrell Alvin McCraney -- author of the acclaimed play, THE BROTHERS SIZE and the first recipient of The Vineyard's Paula Vogel Playwriting Award in 2007 -- now set to play through November 2.

Originally scheduled through October 19, WIG OUT! extends through November 2 due to strong ticket sales and on the strength of reviews praising Mr. McCraney, as well as director Tina Landau and her design team:

In his New York Times review, Ben Brantley called WIG OUT! "a gusty, pulsating new play by the astonishing young dramatist Tarell Alvin McCraney… a thorough and original anatomy of an alternative universe. Divine!"

Michael Kuchwara of the Associated Press wrote that "WIG OUT! brims with attitude and extravagance…real theatrical fireworks!"

In his Star-Ledger  review, Michael Sommers christened WIG OUT! as "one fabulous show…a striking production!"

On Theatermania.com, Dan Bacalzo called the show "a vibrant and innovative new play…a bold production by Tina Landau…stunningly realized and compelling."

And in Backstage, David Sheward exclaimed, "What a glamfest! Fashion, passion and excitement!"

Set nearly twenty years after Madonna's "Vogue" topped music charts and "Paris Is Burning" filled movie theaters, WIG OUT! is a fierce and intoxicating new play which tells of two competing drag houses, and the loves, loyalties, and dreams within each that draw their members together and apart.

WIG OUT! co-stars Daniel T. Booth, Joshua Cruz, Glenn Davis, Sean Patrick Doyle, McKenzie Frye, Nathan Lee Graham, Angela Grovey, Andre Holland, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Erik King, and Clifton Oliver.

The production has scenic design by James Schuette; costume design by Toni-Leslie James; lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski; sound design by Robert Kaplowitz; and hair, wig and make-up design by Wendy Parson.

Douglas Aibel is the Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre; Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell is Executive Director.

Now scheduled to run through November 2, performances of WIG OUT! run Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $20-$55. For more about WIG OUT! and The Vineyard Theatre, call 212-353-0303 or visit www.vineyardtheatre.org
