The Committee Theatre will present the world premiere of The Private Lives Of Eskimos, a new play by Ken Urban, directed by Dylan McCullough. Performances will begin September 8th, and continue through October 1st, at The Linhart Theater at 440 Studios (440 Lafayette Street/3rd floor, between Astor Place and East 4th Street, across from the Public Theater).

The Private Lives Of Eskimos is "the story of a man who loses his cell phone and the mysterious woman who answers the phone. It is a dark comedy and does indeed feature Eskimos who only speak in Spam E-mails," state press notes. The Private Lives Of Eskimos will feature Andrew Breving, Melissa Miller, Carol Monda, and Michael Tisdale. The Private Lives Of Eskimos will have scenic design by Lee Savage, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Thom Weaver, and sound design by Elizabeth Rhodes.

"The Committee Theatre, founded in 2002, creates catastrophic theatre: We produce plays that focus on periods of historical transformation, on moments where forces coalesce to create change. The company is drawn to theatre in which characters face catastrophe. Such extremes strip characters of their moral compass and as a result, they must create a new vision of the world. Rejecting easy solutions and redemption, this theatre of extremes poses ethical questions that engage the audience, both intellectually and emotionally."

Urban's plays have been produced and developed by Moving Arts, Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, Soho Rep, Rude Guerrilla, Target Margin, Annex Theatre, Luna Stage, Son of Semele Ensemble, and others. His plays include I © KANT, Nibbler, Halo, The Absence of Weather, The Female Terrorist Project and 2 Husbands. His plays can be found in New York Theatre Review (Ed. Book Stowe, with an introduction by Aleks Sierz), Plays and Playwrights 2002 (Ed. Martin Denton), The Best Women's Stage Monologues 2001 (Ed. D.L. Lepidus), and The Best Women's Stage Monologues of the Millennium (Ed. Joyce Henry). He teaches at Harvard University.
