The Barrow Group Theatre Company, the birthplace of this season's Broadway hit A Steady Rain, and last season's Off-Broadway hit The Tempermentals, opens their 23rd Anniversary Season with the American Premiere of Clare McIntyre's The Thickness of Skin, directed by Jacob White in the TBG Studio Theatre.

The Thickness of Skin will feature Alison Wright (The Nanny Diaries) as Laura, Michael Chenevert (Across the Universe) as Eddie, Myles O'Connor as Michael, Karin Sibrava as Roanna, Wendy Vanden Heuvel doubling as Imogen and Christine, and Eli Gelb (The Squid & the Whale and Holy Rollers) as Jonathan.

The Thickness of Skin opens October 10 and runs thru November 9 with performances at 8pm Friday thru Monday evenings and Sunday matinees at 3pm at The Barrow Group's Studio Theatre (312 W. 36th Street, 3rd Floor, NYC 10018).

Tickets are $25 and available at www.smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.

In The Thickness of Skin, McIntyre asks ‘in what ways are we responsible to help our fellow human beings'? She highlights the humorous and humanistic side of life while encouraging us each to reflect and perhaps transform.

In the play, Laura chooses to help the displaced and out-of-work Eddie. A relationship blossoms and blurs the lines of charity and manipulation. Meanwhile, Roanna and Michael are struggling to understand their son Jonathan, on the cusp of adulthood, and his friendship with their eccentric neighbor, Imogen. Laura and her family must decide to what lengths they will go in order to ‘help' their fellow man.

Clare McIntyre is a decorated playwright, having received the Samuel Beckett Theatre Award, the London Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright, and the London Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. In 1993, The Barrow Group produced her play Low Level Panic, which the New York Times dubbed "a remarkably sensitive piece of witty writing" that "found the right director and cast."
