Dorothy Bishop has been compared to the likes of Madeline Kahn, Bette Midler, Judy Tenuta and Joanne Worley. The biggest difference is that Dorothy possesses a world class operatically trained soprano. Whether she is singing a parody of Madonna's latest, transforming into her
operatic alter ego Renata Spaghetti, mocking her uncanny resemblance to Sarah Palin, or using her soprano vocals to convey the beauty of Madam Butterfly, she is the rare combination of comedian, actress and classical musician. In New York, she has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall, Joe's Pub, The Zipper Theater and The Bleecker Street Theater. Bishop starred opposite Hollywood legend Faye Dunaway in the national tour of Terrence McNally's Master Class. She was also a finalist on NBC's America's Got Talent. Dorothy Bishop was born in
Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in the heart of Dixie: Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and finally Jacksonville, Florida. Her father, a self made businessman from Harvard, played the family piano every night, and Dorothy grew up singing tunes from The Great American Song Book, American jazz, pop and classical favorites.With an undergraduate degree in theater at Florida State University, and a Masters in Opera from Yale University, Dorothy headed straight for New York City and began her professional career as an opera singer.
