Target Margin Theater (David Herskovits, Artistic Director), Off-Broadway's extraordinary, Obie Award-winning theater company, present the New York premiere of the never-before-seen production of Ten Blocks on the Camino Real by Tennessee Williams at The Ohio Theater (66 Wooster Street). Under the direction of David Herskovits, the six-member cast features Purva Bedi, Satya Bhabha, Curt Hostetter, McKenna Kerrigan, Dara Seitzman and Raphael Nash Thompson. This production will offer an extremely rare view of the theatrical process of playwright Tennessee Williams.

Target Margin Theater's 2009 season explores the experimental work of American playwrights and their avant-garde inspirations. This ‘first draft' of Ten Blocks on the Camino Real, a dreamlike mediation on alienation, beauty and death, was first workshopped by Elia Kazan in 1948 at the Actors Studio and will be presented as Williams wrote and published it. TMT is proud to present Williams' elegant compact first version of what was to become his much-celebrated and legendary play, Camino Real.

Ten Blocks on the Camino Real is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. on behalf of the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.

Performances begin January 14, 2009 for a limited engagement through January 31, 2009 at The Ohio Theater (66 Wooster Street). Opening night is set for January 18, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. (This TMT production will be one of the last at The Ohio Theatre, a downtown landmark for experimental theater, set to close in early 2009.)

The creative team includes Lenore Doxsee (Sets & Lighting), Asta Bennie Hostetter (Costumes), Jim "Sneaky" Breitmeier (Sound), and David Rosenmeyer (Musical Director). The Production Stage Manager is Jacqueline Prats.

Target Margin's Artistic Director Herskovits commented, "We are honored to have been granted the rights to produce this work for the first time ever. This one-act, which evolved into the legendary full-length play, has its own beauty. Ten Blocks is poetic, mysterious and neglected. And its dreamlike quality suits Target Margin's style perfectly."

Ten Blocks on the Camino Real will play the following performance schedule: Wednesdays - Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 7:00 p.m. TMT has scheduled a Benefit Performance on Wednesday evening, January 21st at 7:00 p.m. and a special added performance on Monday evening, January 26th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets priced at $15 for preview performances and $20 therafter are available by calling OvationTix at (212) 352-3101, or toll-free at (866) 811-4111. For additional information, visit the Target Margin Theater website at www.targetmargin.org.

Ten Blocks on the Camino Real is part of a broader two season project that was sparked by the company's parallel process of developing a new play, The Really Big Once, based on the Elia Kazan/ Tennessee Williams collaboration in the period 1948-53. The new piece will be based on correspondence, notebooks, memoirs and other documentary material between these two creative giants. Plans are in the works to bring this new work to the stage in the 2009/10 season.
