SPANDEX Opens Off-Broadway 5/10

Beginning Friday May 10th, Spandex, a new musical for ALL SIZES, will begin a limited off-Broadway run at the 777 Theatre, 777 8th Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets.

Written by Daniel F. Levin and Annie Grunow, with music and lyrics by Julian Blackmore and Mr. Levin, Buns & Guns LLC is thrilled to present Spandex - sponsored by Crunch Fitness. Directed by Andrea Andresakis and Liz Piccoli, choreographed by Ms. Piccoli, and with musical direction by Ming Aldrich-Gans, Spandex has sets by Larry Taylor, costumes by Dustin Cross, lighting by Christian DeAngelis and Sound Design by Kai Harada. Tickets are $ 69.50 with premium seats for $99. They can be arranged on or by calling 212-868-4444.

Spandex tells the story of a picked-on housewife and a vulnerable former gymnast who, through Jane Fonda and the new aerobics movement, discover the power of the burn. When a diet-pill pushing and terribly mulletted fitness guru threatens to undermine their rise, they challenge him in the only place he might be vulnerable: the 1987 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship, hosted by Alan Thicke. The musical was inspired by the YouTube classic of this prestigious sports event.

Crunch first became interested in the musical after two staffers attended a staged reading in spring 2012 and identified with the show's recurring "No Judgments" theme- the fitness brand's core philosophy. Their recommendations were passed slowly up the ladder and a partnership blossomed. This marks the first time the gym chain will serve as an above-the-title sponsor of an off-Broadway show.

Will Boyajian, Brian Drummy, Dana Hunter, Zachary Karon, Sims Lamason, Richard Michael Lee, Micah Mims, Jerielle Morwitz, Alia Munsch, Rose Ouellette, Paige Sommerer, Joe Spitale and Brandon Stansell are the cast of the new musical.

Performance Schedule---Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) May 11th and 12th, May 18th and 19th, and May 25th and 26th at 3pm and 8pm. Weekdays: Friday, May 10th, Wednesday, May 15th, Friday May 17th, Tuesday, May 21st and Thursday, May 23rd at 8pm.
