Playwrights Horizons Announces 2-Week Extension Of KIN Thru 4/17

Following rave reviews and due to popular demand, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced a two-week extension of its critically-acclaimed World Premiere production of KIN, a new play by Bathsheba Doran. Originally set to play a limited engagement through Sunday, April 3, the production will now extend two weeks through Sunday, April 17 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The additional two weeks represent the only extension possible.

"Directed with his customary grace" (The New York Times) by Obie Award winner Sam Gold, the production began previews Friday, February 25 and had its official opening on Monday, March 21.

Charles Isherwood of The New York Times named KIN a Critics' Pick, calling it "Simply terrific. Perhaps the finest new play of the season. Funny and audacious, haunting and exquisitely wrought." Frank Scheck of The New York Post raved, "You'll fall in love. Raucous comedy, poignant emotion - KIN does all that and more, establishing Bathsheba Doran as a major talent." The acclaimed Ensemble cast, lauded as "Superlative" (The New York Times, Isherwood), "Smashing and ideal" (Time Out-New York, Cote) and "Vividly memorable" (The New York Post, Scheck), features Tony Award nominee Suzanne Bertish, Bill Buell, Kristen Bush, Patch Darragh, Kit Flanagan, Laura Heisler, Matthew Rauch, Cotter Smith and Molly Ward.

In KIN, Anna (Ms. Bush), an Ivy League poetry scholar, and Sean (Mr. Darragh), an Irish personal trainer, hardly seem destined for one another. But as their web of disparate family and friends crosses great distances - both psychologically and geographically - an unlikely new family is forged. Bathsheba

The production features scenic design by Paul Steinberg, costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Jane Cox and sound design by Matt Tierney. Production Stage Manager is Alaina Taylor.

The performance schedule for KIN is Tuesdays at 7PM, Wednesdays through Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 2:30 PM & 8PM and Sundays at 2:30 PM & 7:30 PM. Two additional special performances of KIN will offer PLAYTIME! at Playwrights Horizons, a new program offering affordable, professional childcare while patrons see a show. Playtime! is free to Playwrights Horizons subscribers and available to non-subscribers for a flat fee of $15 per child. Playtime! care will be offered during the following two matinee performances: Saturday, April 2 at 2:30 PM and Sunday, April 10 at 2:30 PM. You must reserve childcare at the time you book your performance tickets, and no fewer than 10 days prior to your desired performance. The Playtime! program is made possible with generous funds from the Theater Subdistrict Council (TSC).

Reflecting Playwrights Horizons' ongoing commitment to making its productions more affordable to younger audiences, the theater company offers HOTtix, $25 rush tickets, subject to availability, day of performance only, starting one hour before showtime to patrons aged 30 and under. Proof of age required. One ticket per person, per purchase. STUDENT RUSH, $15 rush tickets, subject to availability, day of performance only, starting one hour before curtain to full-time graduate and undergraduate students. One ticket per person, per purchase. Valid student ID required.

HOTtix and STUDENT RUSH are some of Playwrights Horizons' popular Arts Access initiatives, which allow the institution to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. This program is supported, in part, by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The McGraw-Hill Companies and the Elroy and Terry Krumholz Foundation.

Arts Access memberships (where tickets can be purchased in advance, when single tickets go on sale) are: 30&UNDER MEMBERSHIP, $20 membership fee per season and one $20 ticket for each show, as desired (proof of age required for membership); and STUDENT MEMBERSHIP, $10 membership fee per season and one $10 ticket for each show, as desired (valid full-time student ID required for membership).

Following Edward Albee's ME, MYSELF & I, Amy Herzog's AFTER THE REVOLUTION, Adam Bock's A SMALL FIRE and Bathsheba Doran's current KIN, the Playwrights Horizons 40th Anniversary Season continues with David Greenspan's GO BACK TO WHERE YOU ARE, directed by Leigh Silverman, with previews beginning this Thursday, March 24 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

The final production of the season, in a co-production with New York Theatre Workshop, will be THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD, the New York premiere of a new musical with book by Joy Gregory; music by Gunnar Madsen; lyrics by Ms. Gregory & Mr. Madsen; and story by Ms. Gregory, Mr. Madsen & John Langs; directed by Mr. Langs. Performances begin Thursday, May 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater.
