Photo Flash: First Look - David Rabe's Revised HURLYBURLY, Opening Tomorrow
Variations Theatre Group is presenting a rare New York City revival of David Rabe's HURLYBURLY at The Chain Theatre. Opening Night is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7 PM. The original production of HURLYBURLY took New York by storm in 1984, directed by Mike Nichols. Although the long-running Broadway hit was presented in three acts, David Rabe pared his script into a leaner two-act version for the 2005 Off-Broadway revival starring Ethan Hawke and Bobby Cannavale. It is this revised version which is being presented by Variations Theatre Group by special arrangement with the playwright. Check out a first look below!
Under the direction of Rich Ferraioli, the cast of HURLYBURLY features Deven Anderson (GHOSTS OF PROVINCETOWN, New World Stages), Jacklyn Collier* (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Pulse Ensemble Theatre), Rachel Cora* (EDMOND, Labyrinth Theater Co.), Kirk Gostkowski (DAILY SOUNDS, FringeNYC), Chris Harcum* (AMERICAN GUN SHOW, The Edinburgh Festival),Brandon Scott Hughes (BELOW, Fringe Encore), and Christina Elise Perry* (INTERVIEWS, Big Apple Film Festival). Set in the cocaine-and-sex-infused Hollywood Hills of the mid-1980s, HURLYBURLY is a chilling comedy focusing on four men caught in a world of parties, backbiting, lies, and self-obsession in the decade of decadence. But a string of encounters with destiny convinces one of them to dig beneath the surface to discover his soul.
The performance schedule for HURLYBURLY is Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7 PM, with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 PM through March 1st. Tickets are $18 and are available through www.VariationsTheatreGroup.com or by calling 866-811-4111. The Chain Theatre is located at 21-28 45th Road in Long Island City, just ten minutes from Times Square via the 7, E, G, and M trains to Court Square Station.
