Philly Film Festival Picks Up Short Film Based on Off-Broadway's MULATTO SAGA, Now thru 6/24

The short film Mulatto Saga starring Juliette Fairley is an official selection of the 2012 Urban Suburban Film Festival (USFF) that takes place in Philadelphia from today, June 22 to June 24.

Based on the stage play Mulatto Saga directed by Charles Burnett, the 7 minute film production will also air on syndicated television for three months starting August 4.

"It is an honor to have Mulatto Saga included in the line-up of films at the Philly film festival," said Fairley. "June 21 is my birthday and Philly will be a wonderful location to celebrate it this year."

Mulatto Saga co-stars include Cassidy Knight, Kaylee Souther, Gary Kayi Fletcher and Sara Visser. Knight plays Miss Fairley as a child while Visser and Fletcher play Fairley's white mother and African American father.

The film will screen at the festival on Saturday June 23 while being syndicated through Frank Badami's African American Short Film Showcase which is broadcast on ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and the CW tv networks.

"I am so excited that my short film will screen not only at a film festival on the East Coast but also on national syndicated television," said Fairley. "All of the hard work that I put in to the stage play with my director Charles Burnett is coming back to me with the success of my short films!"

In October, Juliette Fairley's Mulatto's Dilemma (JFMD) is set to premiere at the Poconos Mountain Film Festival also in Pennsylvania.

Based on the same stage play directed by Charles Burnett, JFMD stars Miss Fairley along with Screen Actors Guild actors Roland Sands, Nikki James Riley and Hassan Goding. Newcomers include Daralyn Jay, Steven Strehle, Christine Mottram and Kamilah Michelle Hatcher who join recurring cast members Cassidy Knight, Gary Kayi Fletcher and Kaylee Souther.

"I think I'll do a third short film called Don't Call Me Mulatto," joked Fairley who most recently starred in Fatal Encounters' Who Shot the Sheriff as Phyllis Brown on Investigation Discovery.
