PROPER CARE OF THE PEACE LILY Premieres September 28th at United Solo Festival
PROPER CARE OF THE PEACE LILY, a new play written and performed by Alec Seymour, will be presented September 28th and 29th in the seventh annual United Solo Festival. United Solo is the world's largest solo theatre festival, a resident company at Theatre Row. PROPER CARE OF THE PEACE LILY has already proven to be one of the festival's top sellers. United Solo will announce additional performances for their bestselling entries once the festival is underway.
Trapped in a limitless void, a fatherless young man with no guidance must create his own path back to the world. With the help of a mysterious Peace Lily (named Robert Plant), a divination book and ghosts from past generations, he attempts to piece together an identity and take ownership of his life.
Alec Seymour is a NY based actor working in theater, TV and film. He is also a playwright and an independent producer. Alec began his New York career as a producer on the hit Off-Broadway musical Triassic Parq. Other early career highlights include a national commercial for Papa John's and a grant from NYU for PROPER CARE OF THE PEACE LILY. He studied acting, performance theory and entertainment business at NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Alec is a member of the NYSF Producers' Circle.
PROPER CARE OF THE PEACE LILY began as an NYU staged showcase, winning the Dean's Award for Graduating Seniors, a grant established to aid students in translating outstanding work from academia to a professional sphere. Work on the play continued with a fellowship at SPACE on Ryder Farm, private workshops with James Lecesne, award-winning writer/performer of THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, and a month-long arts/meditation retreat at Karme Choling in Barnet, VT.
